Let Me Down Easy by The Isley Brothers - A soul music gem (113 hits)

I know this is not a music group, but I feel that music, and the arts in general, are an important part of Black culture. Music is a source of inspiration, social interaction, political awareness, and serves as an emotional outlet and a psychological uplift for Black people. The music of the Isley Brothers has served each one of the aforementioned purposes, and served them well.

The Isley Brothers are a soul/funk rock band originally comprised of brothers Ronald, O'Kelly and Rudolph. The Isley's band and music evolved upon the addition of brothers Ernie (guitar), Marvin (bass) and brother-in-law Chris Jasper (keyboard and synthesizer). These men had the raw energy, gospel soul, romanticism and downright creative funk to make hits of songs like 'Twist And Shout', 'This Ole Heart Of Mine', 'It's Your Thing', 'Fight The Power; the timeless 'For The Love Of You' and many more.

Ronald's lead vocals, Ernie's fantastic guitar-work and Chris Jasper's major contributions as musician, songwriter, arranger and producer all contributed greatly to the band's success. They can get down, get funky and get loose one minute... then sing people into intimacy the next. A prime example of my point is the track 'Let Me Down Easy' from the 'Harvest For The World' album. I ran across this track on Youtube a couple of days ago, and radio airplay or album sales aside, I honestly believe this track captures one of Ronald Isley's greatest vocal performances. I love the passion, tone and vocal control Ron displayed on 'Let Me Down Easy'. This brotha was bad long before he became 'Mr. Biggs!' The Isley Brothers funked us and serenaded us for years, and they truly deserve a big Black In America 'Thank You.'

Now go ahead and pour yourself a glass of 'whatever you like' and ENJOY!

CHECK THIS OUT: Ron Isley is generous with the mic too.
