Once upon a time there was a magazine called "Emerge" and it was a newsmagzine much like US News and World Report, or Time, aimed at the community of color (0r pick your own descriptive term...) anyhow, when BET was sold, Emerge died. Its' voice was silenced. This is a real shame. We need to be able to examine ourselves and our world with a chritical eye, and not just bemoan the leagacy of our lost leadership models. We need to embrace new ones! We have an opportunity here to do just that.As this site grows, it is my hope and prayer that we embrace the diaspora within ourselves, and create new leadership models that embrace what we've learned from the past and incorporate what is happening now. As it is, we need to celebrate that which we do right, and correct each other, in love when we do wrong, and we do some wrong!
Personally, I'd like to see more professional men and women accepted as role models within the community, rather than the reverence for fast and loud money made by:
Professional sports dreams, entertainment dreams and the glorification of gang life . Even if that means for the professionals to have to move back into the old 'nood and revamp and remodel!
