I THINK NEED RELIGION, BECAUSE THEY WANT TO FEEL LIKE THE ARE A PART OF SOMETHING. I AM A CHRISTIAN AND I DO BELIVE IN GOD, BUT MY RELIGION DOES NOT DEFINE ME. I HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST. AND BECAUSE OF THAT I AM OK. AND THAT HAS GIVEN ME THE STRENGTH TO BELIEVE IN MYSELF.

Jennifer,

These are just thought provoking questions...I'm not going to tip my hand just yet about my personal beliefs:)

Hello people! I am not here for debate. I started this group for Christians. I have a relationship with Christ. I am an active and faithful member of Liberty City Church of Christ here in Michigan. I believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God and is here for our instruction and guidance on our journey through this life.
I understand how frustrated some people can be with 'religion' but you cannot let people get in the way of your faith and soul's salvation. There are many churches in the world that are corrupt and excuses for personal gain of leaders but there are true spirit filled churches as well. The church is actually the people of God not any particular building. If you read in Revelations you will notice examples of churches being corrupted and divided and what their judgement will be. I feel like I digressed a bit. Did I answer the original question?

Devan and others,

What about non-Christian members of our Black and American family? What do you say to them?

This is a thought provoking question that most of the time brings about debate and arguments. But since most of us, if not all of us, have good sense, which God gave to us, then this conversation should be very interesting and stimulating.
Okay! So, I am a Christian. I think that I would like to start off by saying that my Christianity does define me, in all of my being; but my Christianity is not based on RELIGION. Now let me explain...There are a lot of people out there that believe in God and they say they love God, and vise versa. We see different denominations that call for different ways of living. Some denominations say that, you can where skirts, some say that music does not belong in the church, some say that you go to hell and heaven...the list goes on and on. But what does the Bible say? Christianity is Christianty, it not Baptist, its not Catholic, its not Church of Christ, its not Lutheran...its Christianity. The Bible clearly states that we should not add to or take away from the Word of God. So where did all of these other ideas come from? Man. My religion is not the typical religion where I just do it because it is a rule or regulation; rather, my religion is based on RELATIONSHIP. Jesus spoke in the book of Matthew chapther 23 about religious people (scribes and Pharisees). And also in the New Testament, we see that Jesus' ministry was not only based on the law but more so on RELATIONSHIP.
For none Christians and Christians....would you really like to just believe only in yourself? We are human! We have limits, if all you have is YOU and nothing else, when YOU can go no further then your FINISHED. There is no such thing as SuperMan or SuperWoman; God created us with a void, that only He can fill. Thats why you find that most people who don't believe, most of the time say that they feel like they are lacking something, or there life is just worthless. I don't know about anyone else, but, I don't want the buck to stop at me, because I know that I sometimes fail, but God never fails. If all we had was us, then we would be worse of than we already are. But God loves us all, even those that hate, don't like, or choose not to know Him. So for non-Christians, I say may God reveal Himself to you in a way that only you can encompass, and that He will forever change your life for the better. For Christians, let us begin to look at the life of Christ and pattern ourselves after Him. Stop living like the scribes and the Pharisees, living religiously, just because, or just to get, or just to say "well i did it". Love to Live...we should strive to live holy and righteous because we LOVE Him...that should be enough. After all, none of us would die for a people that hates us...but Christ did...we owe Him.

Dr. Glover, You don't need religion. You need God and the Bible. The Bible has within it all of your answers. If you can not find the answers, then you must pray for them.

You can not do it alone because you do not have infinite knowledge--as God does. You can not be moral on your own because without God's word people would not even know what "moral" is. They would be scrambling around trying to figure out what it is--AKA they would try and set up thier own Judicial system.

God made man in his image. But he also gave him free will. If people misinterpret the Bible, add or take things from the Bible, then that is man's fault and not God's.

It does not matter where Christ was born, so long as he is Christ the son of God. People attempt to give him a race as a way to empower themselves or a certain group of people.

All of these different religions don't matter if they do not follow the word of God. There may be different translations into different languages, but the message is all the same. People want to pick and choose what to believe in the Bible, and what not to believe--that is where the contradictions set in. The Bible does not contradict itself.

That is true Irma. A more proper question would have been: Is religion necessary to lead a virtuous life?...or something like that.

Ok, Guest. God's word does not depend upon anything. It is self sustaining. It's not open for interpretation because all of its' principals are clearly stated and readily accepted by the believer.

Barack Obama can, and does, attend the Christian faith. He is not muslim. He has clearly expressed that a numorous amount of times. Just because he does not have a Church to go to does not mean he has abandoned his faith.

We have the God given PRIVELAGE of free will. Lisa explained why earlier. This is not to say that we can manipulate his word to our advantage and create sub-religions. To belive in him, love him, and keep an open relationship with him is what he intended.

These are two seperate entities. You may not need religion. That is something entirely made and controlled by man. If it is man made you don't have to have it.
However you may need GOD. Humans have a need to believe in something, to be able to explain their surroundings and the things that happen around them.

You started a fire here Doc. For a Christian to read tha question you just posted is like throwing a steak to a hungr Pit Bull! Personally, as a Christian I beleive we all need to recognize that there are eternal consequenses for the choices we make here on earth, and we need to acknoweldge there is a Creator, God and we are His creation. Now, you don't have to, the Bible tells us the people reject the Gospel. And to answer the question on how to treat non-Chrstians, the answer is with love. and Just as Christians aren't to beat non-Christians over the head with the Bible, non-Christians shouldn't beat Christians over the head with the Qu'aran, Hare Krishna or whatever... ok?

As the comment above mine, I to say that I am not here to debate "religion" I am here to say why the word "religion" and what it represents for me as a thinking person who does not find it possible to take myself out of my life nor to only find my actions acceptable when it is considered by 'others' to be good and then my being able to put the 'blame/excuses on someone else when it suits me. Or to deny the rights or equality of someone else who does not agree/accept my religious choice. Like Barack Obama or even me because most people can not look past what as 'religion is as being a part of our man and God given rights.

I will use my self as an example. I am female and Black and I believe in God. your conclusion is-I am a Christian/have christian beliefs? I find the rules of 'religions' to confining adn to dictating of my will to think or ask questions about things I could not understandThings like not killing, love for your fellow man, equality etc.

Next, for the past 22 years I have been a Buddhist. I serve a Buddhistidol. again, wrong. And, my pat answer to this is I have not had a religious figure in my home since I choose to leave my life long Catholic faith , and which is the truth.

I am a Nichiren Daishonin Buddhist. Although President JFK made it an offical religion in America, I call it a philosophy for being responsible for your own actions or as we say the causes you make and the results of those causes on this planet called Earth. Christ in my belief caused the Christian religion therefore I believe in Christ. It is this simple. But, more important I can say this and stand by it without fear (of hell)or regret, because "I am".this was the motto of my University graduation.

Chastity,I agree with most of what you say, but the manner of how you said most of it is why I got so tired of being just labled by the Father for not having enough faith or I would not be asking these kinds of questions. questions like,"If Christ was a Jew then why do we as Christians not follow the Jewish faith" Therefore this makes Christianity a spin off of the Jews (?)because they did not agree with the word of G-O-D. god as I understand it is who sent his son? If god made us in his own image then why do we all keep using the St. James Bible(christian) version(?) to prove how wrong he was for making someone not like me-mostly skin collor> The KKK, Skin heads use the St. James version as the Baptist church. The Black and White Baptist church does not believe in the same words of the same Bible. Yet, the greatest believers are the ones who believe in the words of God in the Bible. If I am wrong please let me know on this issue.

If the first Black churches in America believed in the words of God in the masters church/bible then why did they hold the first sit-ins in America to get their own church with a whole new name. The AMEZion? you see even then those Black Liberation Thelogy Misniste(or the leader of the day pastor Allen) was also condemned by the White majority as anti-Christian, anti_American just as Rev, J. Wright is today. The Blacks did not worship the same White God thanking and asking God to Bless America for their not being treated EQUAL and having the fight to go to the place of worship they thenselves chose. Reminds me a lot of Barack H. Obama when I think about Black in America...does it so the same with you?

Or can you be the one to answer me this question about the words of God that we were created in his own image so it can make sinse to me?A perfect godd who made Africans and Iranians and Black and White Muslims may God help us!!!!???

Almost for got the the "Protestant"religion comes from the word Protest(much like the black church spun off)Because at the time the Catholics were buying their way to heaven, not "suffering" as the poor did still. The slaves also did not see the White Christians suffering like they did to get into heaven so something had to give. Remember what you said about changes, it is not the Bible it self but the teachings to suit the situtation as I look at it. Can not think this way if one fears gong to 'HELL for doing s, am I correct or be a good Christian. but if god is perfect is this looked at as having done something WRONG????. Again, remember our next may be President can not attend the religion (church)of his choice?!?!!!!Nor Oprah...And, they are not only Christians, Oprah has money, money money, fame and power and can not do so. Do Christians (use of god's words )have any thing to do with this or them being called anti-Christ, anti-American, Muslims, Marxist. what about the FBI label of Dr. M. L. king as communist????

Dr. Glover, I believe that I am the only expert on Irma and you are the only "expert on Dr. Glover. If and when I am asked to "tell",suggest to someone how or what to think about themselves, my reply is always, "You(that individual) is the only expert on your self"! Only you know what: you like and do not like, what makes you happy/ unhappy, how little/how big is the pain of your headach, ect. Therefore you should never, ever look out side of your own self for these answer on how well you do/do not know your worth.Never, never ever believe that learning is expecailly from your mistakes is finite!!!
