Is this something that you desire to achieve? Does material possesion truly bring comfort and happiness. As we all know when we're gone we don't take any of it with us. Can peace of mind and relationship with God be enough? What does the American Dream mean to you?

Great Post! I think it's a happy medium. I think you don't need to be rich but what you need to be is comfortable, comfortable enough in christ, and comfortable enough to not live pay check to pay check. I personally believe that God looks down on two in more favor than he does one, I say that because in today's world it's hard to have a real wholesome relationship, either you have luggage, or your partner has luggage. We all carry alot of toxicity around and alot of times we don't even know it. That in of itself begs the question how does that directly impact our relationship with God? My American Dream is to find a wholesome life. To be loved and respected and to hopefully find a woman to share it all with.

I also said Comfortable enough TO NOT live pay check to pay check. American Dream is many things to many people, it's more about perception.

I like Irma thanks for sharing. I know myself I am always in the pursuit to obtain, more and more and more. But I always make sure to give back of my time and money. But is it greed to want or do we want because the Jones have? If the Jones didn't have would we know they difference?

The dream is whatever you want it to be...it's a dream. If you can envision it...go for it!

Hi and much lov my sister. This is a comment I made not long ago. Our graduationg class at UCDavis was made up of all African-American students (by our choice). Our graduation class' motto was, "I AM". And, to me this motto meanings to be able to OWN this identity ("I AM")is in it self the "American Dream" As for not being able to 'take it' with you...as I am a part of my children, their children and all of those before me; I believe that you can take it with you while leaving some behind when you go. Just an independant thought.(smile)

Etana, most of what we do/say and so on is in how willing we are to allow control of our own personal emvironment into the hands of others. for example, I am a Black female, would you be shocked if you were to know that I grew up in a mansion? Not something that comes to mind right away when you hear the African-American , am I correct? And, so much so, I believe I must add that it was owned by my parents.I do enjoy being on this site where we can talk directly to each other about our problems and make each other aware of some of our problems. because of the lack of us seeing each other as individuals , we then do the same thing to our selves. It is true I grew up in a mansion and one of my half sisters(my mother was never married to my father)...my baby half sister who is close to 50 yr. now, grew up in the Norris Street projects in North Philly. About 15 years ago she opened up her first child care in her basement in her home. As people got to know of her day care she kept growing and growing. Now she is a millionair. Another picture that Does not come to mind say pass, being inprison. on drugs. We are the American Dream, so try giving a look at this side (from OUR side as it is there)of the American Dream. O.K? iIrepeat, a lot of this nagative stuff come directly from us.

Dr. Glover, your comment just brought something back to me.In college, I had a quote card on the mirror of my med. cabnet. It said "if you cand dream it, you can do it". I put this where I saw it every day. I admit, it came in handy at final time.
