The other day I wrote a blog about how our years are miscalcuated. To break it down very briefly, I'll show you the math.
If we go by the correct number of hours in a day which isn't approximately 24 hours. There are actually 23.934 hours which is 23 hours 56 minutes and four seconds in a day.
There are 28 days in a month. Going by the approximate numbers, that means we have EXACTLY 364 days a year, no leap years, this is approximate, no rounding off.
So what would be today's date based on approximate numbers? About September 13 , 2009.
How'd I get that number? Well see below...
If we are counting from 1 A.D to the present, there have been "2008" years based on the Gregorian Calendar. The 2008 years, has 365 days per year, with a leap year every four years, with extra leap days in the years: 400, 800, 1200, 1600, and the year 2000.
Now adding this up, how do we arrive at our being in the year 2009:
If we have 28 days in a month (as it should be)
And the sun is spinning on its axis at 23.934 hours a day when added correctly
We arrive at 13 months in a year, with only 364 days APPROXIMATELY.
So let's add this up:
2008 * 364 days = 730912 days since we've began counting time. The 2008 years I have removed all leap years and changed to 364 days. The leap days add up to approximately 485.2 days. I'll add them back again later. (there's an error margin here, as there should be, under 23.934 hour days, 486.53797944346954123840561544247 leap days instead of 485.2)
Using 23.934 hour days, there have been:
731,397 days from 1 AD to 2008.
Now let's divide 731,397 days by 364 and we get:
2009.332967032967032967032967033 as our YEAR.
however if we want to calculate allt he way to august 14 (today), this is the 226th day of the year. So we will need to divide that by 23.934 to get an accurate estimate on which day of the year we are actually in, then add it to 731,397.
23.934 * 28 = 191.472 Minutes in a month.
Let's do that shall we?
If each month has only 28 days then we have an additional 16 days unaccounted for. So if I say 23.934 (the precise number of hours in a day) times 3 I have a left number of minutes at .198. This happens 12 times between now and "august".
3 days using the precise number of hours in a day is 71.802 hours.
Using a 24 hour day, three days is 72 hours
What is 71.802 times 12 ? = 861.624 hours we have had this year, approximate hours using the 23.934 hours in a day.
Now I need to add up the .198 minutes left over from the 31 day months.
that adds an additional : 2.376 additional hours.
Now add 861.624 hours plus 2.376 hours and we have approximate 864 hours from January to now using the 28 day month/23.934 hour day.
There are extra days left over from months with 30 days. Following the steps above, that leaves us with 95.736 hours from january to now. but using a 24 hour day, we would have 96 hours from jan till now (which is incorrect). So, if we subtract 95.736 from 96 we are left with 0.264 hours.
960 hours in a year is 40.1103033341689646527951867636 days.
So we are in the year 2009 on the 264.1103033341689646527951867636 day of the year.
Which means we are somewhere in September: 9.4325108333631773090283995272714
So today would be September 12, 2009 Or more accurately, September 13, 2009. We have lost approximately one year and 28 days over the course of "time" when you factor into it the little numbers at the end and the year leap years.
