Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. (WEB Dubois pictured right)
When I 1st heard this quote, it was from the famous movie, "Akeelah and the Bee." When Keke Palmer, the 12 year old actress that plays Akeelah recited the quote, it touched me deep inside. Almost like it struck a cord, because that quote related 2 myself tremendously. I cried.
I cried because at one point in my life, I was completely fearless. I wasn't afraid of shining 4 myself and others, and when I got older fear and self-doubt settled in. When your a kid, you're not aware of fear and you always have the biggest dreams and aspirations 4 yourself. As a kid you know exactly what you want 2 be in life, because your talents shine through naturally. Your talents are natural gifts from God.
As you get older you start 2 become more aware of your surroundings and start thinking realistically about survival. Having limited means doesn't make your big dreams smaller, it just makes them appear inconceivable . We limit ourselves with what we can do. And why? Because we don't have the money 2 go 2 school, or we think we won't get excepted anyway so why even apply? Or is it because of our own insecurities that make us feel that there is no hope, so why put forth the effort.
I know God has always been with me, but recently he has been speaking loud and clear! I know what I want 2 be in life. I now acknowledge the gifts that he has given me and I'm more ready then ever 2 use them. I'm already using 1 talent with this website, my writing. But I just thank God 4 giving me my gifts and showing me that I CAN be anything I want 2 be. Yea.....the road may be hard, and even though I don't know how long the journey is 2 get 2 my destination, 1 thing is clear 2 me. I have definitely entered the passage way, in which I'm sure I am meant 2 follow.
It feels so good 2 know your purpose in life, that sometimes you just have 2 yell at the top of your lungs. It's such a great feeling, because people live everyday wondering what am I meant 2 do in this life? Just think back 2 when you were little. What was it that gave you such joy and passion then? Whether it be basketball, singing, acting, writing, playing doctor or drawing. 9 times out of 10 what you loved doing then, is still what you love doing now. God helped you tap into your talents early, so that when you got older you'd be well on your way. 4 many of us the limited means is what holds us back. But let me tell you something, money can't stop your voice from being heard if your a singer/actress or public speaker, money can't stop your fingers from moving if your a writer or drawer and money sure can't stop you from being creative and intellectual in your own right.
Yes, having money would make things a lot easier, but having your natural gifts is priceless and something that can be used 2 touch the world. So concentrate on your gifts and as they mature, watch yourself bloom like the flower you are.
