Are there any good public schools left? (693 hits)

Everywhere I go I am told about the failing public schools. I know that the dropout rate for some schools is higher than 50 percent. On any given day 50% of high school students do not show up for class. However, I believe that there are some good public schools. Do you have a good public school in your neighborhood? What makes the school successful? I think parent involvement is one key factor to developing successful schools. Do you have other ideas?

Glad you are posing the questiions about what makes a good school. I am a firm believer in becoming the change you wish to see, so when people answer your questions I hope that they are also thinking about what they can do to bring it to pass.

Dedicated teachers in conjunction are needed to have a successful school. There also is a need to have the system to support education. That sounds like a strange statement but I have been exposed to school systems that have goals other than the education of the student. Money management, politically correct image and in some extreme cases providing protection from harm for the students have come to out weigh that purpose of educating our children and equiping them to be competitive in a global economy

Blah, Blah, Blah BIA is full of hot air.... Mister Johnson is right it's time out for talk to hear yourself talk... The schools represent the environment inwhich they are placed.... if in a ghetto, low income, low education area... Do any of you think that school will be one of the communities best? CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT... CHANGE THE SCHOOL

Everytime someone is talking about "better education in schools" the less education our children get. I believe teaching your child also involve good parenting. If they are not learning it in school, then certainly I believe they should be learning basic skills at home. Many parents, even me just don't follow up on what our children are doing in their classes. We don't assist our children like we should. We don't attend to meetings, or school activities until we discover our child has failed in some of their classes. We have to start watching what our children do, and intercept them to become lovers of learning. Conditions can change, but I feel education is a family thing. Parents are the real teachers. It's what I think, so I have to do better when it comes to teaching my own. That's what my parents did. I'm from "Old School" these techniques never leave. They stick like glue.

Personally. I think that parents need to take part in teaching their own children. If public schools are lacking, step up and be a parent.
