The Queen's Chair: What You Do For A Living Really Says Nothing About You
I heard a young female radio announcer make this statement. I was perplexed. She apparently didn't think her premise out. If she had, maybe, she wouldn't have made that proclamation over the airwaves.
What you do for a living doesn't tell me your favorite color, your favorite TV show, if you were the star athlete in high school, how you live, your dreams, or anything about your personality. It does tell me that you have certain skills sets and you know how to get along with people. It also tells me (based on your length of service) that you were not only able to get the job, but keep it as well.
What did you want to be when you grew up? Are you living that dream? Your current job doesn't tell me that either. It also doesn't tell me if you pay your bills on time, if you are anal, or if you are a neat freak.
Some people take jobs to keep food on the table. Others take jobs to use as a stepping stone for the next job. While a few of us work jobs for most of our lives that we absolutely hate. I consider myself luck because I am doing what I love. I'm in the minority on this one. We spend so much time at our jobs; it would make sense that we do something we love.
Unfortunately, everyone is not so lucky. Today's economy proves that. Everyone is hurting. The recession saw hundreds of thousands of job get eliminated. Many of us are lucky to have jobs and to keep doing what we are doing.

Where have you been Sister Marsha? I don't recall reading any blogs from you in the past. I say this to let you know how much I like your blogs. ((smiles)) I work as a nurse and I absolutely love what I do for the sick and their families. I wanted to be a doctor, but I changed my major to nursing when I came to realize my family wouldn't be able to pay for a medical degree.
Nursing has rescued me from the grips of poverty and allowed me to have a solid place in middle class America and it definitely a recession proof job. People haven't been so lucky as you stated to have a job in which they love doing, but at least they can provide for their families with the income. My sister just became a Certified Nursing Assistant and has had several interviews with no solid offers, because the job market is really competitive. I know that she will get something soon or either she'll have to probably look into getting a nursing degree.
