The Queen's Chair: Why I LOVE Birthdays
I'm celebrating my birthday today. I woke up to find funny messages and songs from friends on Facebook. My family is throwing a surprise party for me tomorrow, but I haven't let on that I know. My daughters first attempted this last year when I recovered one-year after my stroke. Usually, I just threw a small dinner party with friends at a favorite restaurant.
I embrace my birthday for several reasons: I'm an Aquarius and we are one of the most helpful, creative and helpful signs of the zodiac. I study astrology and most of the characteristics of Aquarians are true. I share this day with singer Anita Baker and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres. I share my zodiac sign with Oprah, Justin Timberlake, and John Travolta.
I enjoy looking back on my life and seeing how far I've come. Most of my dreams have come true. I have had a lot of fun and have overcome much adversity. I always wanted to write a book, but now I've written four-- two have been printed and one comes out in the fall.
I always wanted to be a mom and God blessed me with beautiful, healthy children. I appreciate the gifts that my creator has given me. I feel especially blessed to have really good friends who have had my back these past years as I continue to recover from my illness.
The thing I love most about birthdays is that it's a gift from God. I'm happy that I'm still here and living a good and productive life with my friends and family. I don't mind if that number inches up each year. Birthdays aren't just about numbers, it's about living your life to the fullest. It's better than the alternative.
