The Queen's Chair: UNCF Tribute To Lionel Richie

I'm finally catching up on my DVR-recorded programs. I had the chance to watch UNCF's Tribute to Lionel Richie. I'm so glad I recorded this.

For starters, Lionel Richie looks WONDERFUL at 60 and I laughed when Tom Joyner came out dressed in a HUGE afro wig a-la-Commodores era. The audience tripped and Lionel Richie was speechless. He had so many amazing singers like Stevie Wonder, Brian McKnight, and Ledisi serenaded him with his songs.

The music Richie has created was amazing. The 70s and 80s belong to him. I forgot how many classics he recorded: "Hello", "Three Times A Lady", "Jesus Is Love", a song he sang at Michael Jackson's funeral, but is on the Commodores' Heroes album; "Brick House", "Zoom", "All Night Long", "Still", "Dancing On The Ceiling", "We Are The World"...I could go on.

My youngest daughter loved the music and it's probably the only time I didn't mind answering one of her questions: "Mom, who is Lionel Richie?" After watching this two-hour salute, now she knows. I'm so glad I grew up when I did.
