The Queen's Chair: I'll Be Watching The Oscars Sunday Night

Sunday night is a big deal in my house; it's been that way for years. The 82nd Oscars will be televised and our house we'll be tuned in. I'll also watch Barbara Walters's last Oscar Night Special.

2009 was a good year for movies. I saw a lot of them. If you haven't figured it out, I'm a movie geek. For years, I hosted an Academy Awards Party at our local movie theater that raised money for a children's charity. That task happened by accident. (I really like being behind the scenes.) I did the public relations for years and then the programs. The event organizer, who also was a movie critic, saw my potential and promoted me to emcee.) And when I wasn't doing this, I curated a Black Film Festival called Ethnogenre. I LOVE movies.

Count on Monique to win Best Supporting Actress honors. I'm delighted that The Princess and The Frog, Precious, Up, Up In The Air, and The Blindside are nominated for Best Film. Avatar set a box office record, but shouldn't be in the Best Picture Category. Gabbie Sibourgney wouldn't win Best Actress, but I'm glad her talents were recognized. I'd like to see Sandra Bullock win for The Blindside in that category. She gave a great performance.

The toughest category of the night will be Best Director. I don't think James Cameron should get it, I'd like to see Kathleen win for The Hurt Locker and I think that will take Best Picture. Kudos to Morgan Freeman, Lee Daniels, and other actors of color, who were nominated.

I know it will be a long night...it always is. I no longer emcee this event because my mentor/muse/film critic extraordinare Bill Klein died of a massive heart attack six years ago. I hosted the event to help a friend out. I remember the discussions we had about films (some funny/some heated) and I am still on a roll when it comes to picking Best Supporting Actress.

Have no idea what co-hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will do. I just know on Sunday night, I'm just going to sit back, relax, and enjoy the

It is... It was a good telecast. So many firsts last night. Kathryn Bigelow's win. A screenwriting award going to a brother. I screamed when Sandra Bullock won. And nearly cried when Monique won.
