The Queen's Chair: Bitten By The Spring Cleaning Bug

I got the urge. It started last weekend. The weather is warming up and the sun is shining. I hear birds trying to build a nest outside my window.

I've come up with this year's to do list. The list includes buying new umbrellas, cleaning out my basement, fixing the railing on the front porch, new locks on both sets of doors, having my carpet dry cleaned and getting my garden right. This year, that lilac bush will be in my backyard. If there's any money left over...maybe the driveway will get done.

That's just the beginning. I've thrown out faded or cracked plastic cups. I'm weeding out junk mail and old or worn towels, and donating slightly used clothes and shoes. I did four loads of laundry yesterday and will try for four more in the next two days.

My brightly-colored summer flag will be flying from my house soon. I've bought my daffodils. I'm looking forward to putting fresh flowers from my garden in vases on my table and putting my hanging baskets out after I'm done creating them. Fresh air swirls through my house for six months and I get to spend more time on my front porch. I'm looking for new fish and salad recipes. My children are looking forward to new bikes.

Bye-bye spiders. See you later, winter ants. Here comes the sun.

As my mom says, when you have a house, there's always work to be done. She's right. However, I love this time of year.
