The Queen's Chair: I HATE My NEW NOISY Neighbors

I'm catching up on sleep this week. For the past two weeks, my family and I have had to endure our new noisy neighbors. When our neighbor moved to DC, he told us that he was going to rent out his house versus selling it. His new company wanted him in DC like yesterday. He told me a woman with a child was moving in. I groaned.

I already have renters on one side of me, now I'm being sandwiched in. Louder groan. My experience has been that "renters" don't take care of the rental property because they have a landlord.

My new neighbors decided to move into their new digs at 2 a.m. in the morning and they were LOUD. The whole neighborhood heard them; they woke up my children. I thought they would be more considerate, but they weren't.

Instead of that woman and her child, it turns out that her fiance, grandparents, four kids and a dog moved in. The dog barked all night. Again my kids couldn't sleep.
I had enough.

As my youngest got ready to catch her bus, this mama bear did a couple of things. I e-mailed the old neighbor and told him what the heck was going on. I talked to other neighbors who heard them and they will support us to get rid of the noisy neighbors. Then I got dressed to talk to the neighbors.

I banged on their door for 30 minutes. Just my luck; their dog slept through that.I finally saw two sets of children 's eyes peeping at me and instructed them to go get a parent. A few minutes later, their step father came to the door. I introduced myself and welcomed them to the neighborhood. I asked him for a small favor: to keep their noise down because my school-aged children can't sleep at night. He was gracious and agreed. Mom wasn't so receptive. She barely spoke to me and was more anxious to get out of the house. Just one problem: she left two children under the age of 6 alone in their home.

As I went back home, I had so many questions. Why would you leave these kids home by themselves? Where was she going that she couldn't take them? And why weren't they in school or daycare?

My ex-neighbor hasn't responded to me yet. And I refuse to deal with noise nonsense yet another summer. I don't understand some people, but all I know is that I'm watching these people and will be calling the cops, if need be.

That's what I'm doing, Irma. I may be calling Child Protective Services soon.

Marsha, I do feel for you, because I have lived that nightmare...if I were you I would keep an eye on how the children may be put in some kind of danger or neglect...these children needs sleep and at that young age a lot of undestrubed sleep. They are right there in all of that noise pollution zero zone!!!!(smile)
