The documentary "Banished" by Producer Marco Williams is like AMISTAD x 10! It is a MUST SEE for African Americans. Many of you have heard stories in your family about land that your ancestors had: it is true, and it was probably stolen at some point, but the deeds are still on record. Williams investigated this, and what he found is literally earth-shaking.

After seeing the documentary, I bought it for my Minority Relations and Social Problems classes; the students were STUNNED. Remember, the young people in our classes today never used a record player, Reel-to-Reel, or 8-track tape player before...

Dr. Ross, the researcher asked a good question, what do we do? I mean, now that we have this information what is the next step. Can the descendants of those African-American families reclaim their great grandparents land? Do they have the right? Does the statue of limitations apply here? Or will we allow the United States of America to link this to reparations? Or does this documentary do nothing but show the world how powerless African-Americans were during this time. I'm saying, we got plenty of information ie books, movies, etc. already on how we were powerless and taken a advantage of.

It was powerful documentary. Forsyth County, Georgia had 1,098 African-American in 1912 and was dissmated to 30 within months. The researcher said it best, ethnic cleasning. These whites folks that did this should be exposed and put in the same category as Hitler. This county never regain it African-American population since 1912. I think it read something like the African-American population is up to 689 or someting in 1960. Georgia whites aren't the only culprits in this stealing, killing, terrorizing of African-Americans the list is long and I'm sure its not finished. Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri are the few found sofar to take put in this injustice.

Dr. Ross, I would love to read your thoughts on this.
