Just one of those days!

Posted By: Angela Hughes on November 06, 2008 I don’t usually blog, because of lack of time, but I just had to get something off of my chest. I was standing in line today for coffee and I overhead a gentleman speaking to one of the employees about his church. He said something to the effect of “we are Black kings, making women Black queens.” Then he went on about something to the effect that a woman is not whole if she didn’t have one of these “Black kings” to lead her. I wanted to scream right there in the store! Why can’t we understand the patriarchal norms in our culture uphold white supremacist philosophies? Maybe if I thought of myself as “religious” I would get it, but I’m not and I don’t. My spiritual views make me know that I am…I am beautiful, I am powerful and I am rational. I do not need someone to make me something that I already am. We now have the honor of having a Black president, which I feel is revolutionary, I think it time we start thinking in terms of evolutionary. Angela, just my reading your post has made me glad that you could share your thoughts with me. It is so very seldom that I hear people holding themselves in complete charge of their own lives. You go girl and please keep blogging about your "choice to be free". You are my sister in spirit as I am a very spiritual person.
