Addressing Irresponsibility In Black Men

Addressing Irresponsibility In Black Men
Posted By: Christopher Donshale Sims on November 25, 2008

I find it amazing - the irresponsibility
too many Black men posses. I am
attempting to address the nature of
Our lack of owning up to real manhood,
How we badly treat Black women, and
How we forget about our children.

There are too many examples of
us falling behind when it is time
To live as the kings we are born to be.

Despite the many examples of us
That are taking care of business,
I hear of too many of us that are not.

Black women are either hot
about this, or have chosen to dismiss
us from any future with them as mates.
This creates division, destruction
And an almost death for future
relationships between we kings and queens.

However, many of us brothers
are allowed by our women
To live in such a way. Many sisters
allow decay of themselves
To make sure we are taken care of
in ways that cripple us.

I'm speaking of the Baby Boy syndrome
that has its original home
In slavery days when Black men
were taken away from their sons,
Leaving it up to mothers to care for us
holding on to our lives tightly.

We stick around, still. Even into our
30s, 40s and 50s
We stay home, we don't work
At the same time, it is our mothers
and mates that we stress out, hurt.

Mother complains but won't
encourage the man to gain.
How much disappointment and pain
can Black women take??

By the time they are ready
arguments, strokes, and heart attacks happen
And it's much, much too late.
When will this cycle be broken??

When will the truth be spoken??

When will the irresponsible brothers
open their eyes to reality
And dramatically change their patterns??

Black women cry tears
In fear of making a choice between
saying, “Hey, let's work on changing your ways.”
or “Get out, and don't come back another day!”

When will we change?? When we will we change??
When will those of us who need to, change??

My friend Christopher Donshale Sims,

Excellent Points. I missed, though, your entry as to what is responsibility.

We all talk, look and identify as if our family-clan-tribe ancestry started with Lincoln freeing the slaves.

If we all agree that our history and life as a people started with Lincoln than we all can agree that we Slave Americans are a product of White Racists Mastery for hundreds of years.

The Master was Dr. Frankenstein and Slave Americans are the Monster.........
Responsibilty for the Monster means not learning to read out of fear of death from the Master--
Responsibilty for the Monster means accepting that the God of the Master is His God not the the Slave American--
Responsibility for the Monster is sending your mate or daughter or son to the Master for raping--
Responsibility for the Monster is seeing your mate, daughter or son off to the next master for raping and economic gain.
We will change! When those of us need to change--CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

I am very convinced that there are lots of black men taking care of their responsibilities, but because of the negative stereotypes out there is a misconception that most aren't. I would like for us at some point to explore the notion of inequality in economics of the black male which continues to keep the cycle of irresponsibility going. If a man can't take care of himself how is it possible for him to take care of a family?

I am not condoning any man who deliberately and on purpose doesn't take care of his family, but I feel some men have been deliberately handicapped because of unequal playing fields.

I just don't believe that it is fair that some black men possess college degrees, but can't get decent jobs that their while male counterparts get. Once the economic deprivation is addressed, I think things can reasonably change in the cycle of so called irresponsibility.
