An Open Letter to You

Posted By: Michelle Diane on May 28, 2009 Wassup African America? I had a difficult time figuring out what to say to ya’ll in this edition of The Bridge Builders’ Update. First “Testimony” is a tough act to follow and the days since have been full of upheaval and insanity- literally. Momma often admonished, “Every cloud has a silver lining.” The truth of those words has been made amazingly manifest in, perhaps through, these trying days, and I am so grateful; my struggle has been and is how to share the gifts with all of you. I’ll save the personal details for another time; for now let it suffice to say that what my life was ten days ago and what my life is today are largely very different things. It is crisis that turned my world on its ear, changed and empowered me. I am far from alone; many, if not most of us, are faced with turmoil in our thoughts, our relationships and our finances; to many of us struggle and suffer in isolation and fear. I got hit hard, a little akin to C4 in a 30 gallon trash can. I felt alone and scared; I wanted to bury my head, to run away. Folks just wouldn’t let me; friends fussed, encouraged and prayed me through and I learned something about my personal value and I learned a lot about what it means to have a support system that both believes in you and holds you accountable. I can extol the miracles good counsel and good friends can bring into your life or I can get the heck outta the way and let you see for yourself. My friends, all professional coaches, speakers and authors, share their wisdom and encouragement with you in the May Bridge Builders’ Update. Herbert Harris not only provides motivation for overcoming your fears, he give you a step by step plan to victory in “Obstacles to Change.” Beverly Cohen reminds us the catalyst for change is inherent in counting our blessings. “Accessing the Power of Gratitude" is Beverly’s first article for The Bridge Builders’ Update, but you will remember her as the visionary career coach who selflessly gives of her time and experience to assist unemployed professionals. Speaking of gratitude, Barbara Dixon is back this month with Part 2 of “The Recovery and You” Hard hitting and straight forward as usual, you can’t afford to miss this prosper right now article. This is your time and Barbara again shows us how to yes you can in this sho’ looks shaky economy. These are but a few of the folks who made me stronger and better in and through the turmoil. They helped me turn crisis into possibility and prosperity; I know they can do the same for you. May you find growth, motivation and enjoyment in the new Bridge Builders’ Update.
