There are lots of things about our economy that I do not understand and would like some more information about. Why are the Fortune 500 companies sitting on hundreds of billions perhaps trillions of dollars in cash reserves instead of investing that money back into their companies? The Federal Reserve has offered money to the banks at practically zero percent interest since this crises has begun (this is money other than the famous bailouts). The banks have taken advantage of this to the tune of trillions of dollars (one figure I have read is 14 trillion). What have the banks done with all this cash? Why can not these banks create financial instruments that reinvest some this money in municipalities and states with similarly low rates so that local governments can take care of decaying infrastructure or deserving new projects that can benefit those communities and be affordable? The banks could also support small businesses and start-ups with low interest small loans. I want to understand how the richest of our citizens are manipulating our political parties and electoral process. In my state and many others politicians are making it more difficult to vote. They say it is to prevent voter fraud. Oddly enough they can not offer any proof voter fraud has taken place but their actions are disenfranchising millions of American citizens. This is because elections are often very close these days and the party in power realizes these disenfranchised voters are more likely to vote for the other guy. This is a coordinated effort across the states. We need to return democracy to the people. Thanks sis @Irma, You are so right. We must make them accountable. We must force Wall St and the big banks to get up off the money and start investing in small businesses to get the economy started again. We got your back Mr. President! @Bro Saint, so true, but until we understand the power we hold, that won’t be obtainable. I can’t believe its actually going to start with the younger generation, including yourself. That makes me think about this new revolution with women and natural hair and claiming our natural selves. I cut all my hair off May 1st and I absolutely love me. I was quick to blame others for moving into this territory and setting up in our own neighborhoods and actually selling us our own goods, but when I heard this brother speak and I think I’ll post his video, I realized that the African American community actually opened the door for this, why because we didn’t understand the business end of things. Oh we know how to start businesses. I owned a salon in NY for 13 years, but I bought my products from guess who?, when I should have been going directly to the source. So in essence we have to start the learning process over again, and this starts with our youths. (yourself), so good luck to you my young brother. We got your back! Great topic my sister in spirit. Me, being math braindead I am still able to understand the banks used the monies they were suppose to loan to small banks so that they could help small business with loans to pay back their own stimuilus loans plus interest got a great public praise for these big bankswhile we just went on and voted for a republican majority in the house to block any and all efforts for this administrations to have the big banks do what they promised to do in the first place. Now all we have to do is be patient and watch Occupy Wall street, this Memorial to Dr. King and rebuild the dream's unity in finally putting emphsis on what our president said and what he meant when he said way back when...
