If there were no Black History, there would be no history. First, we will begin by a little reflection and a little up dating: "This Is What You Call Me, Let ME Tell You Who I Am" I STARTED out a king The creator of the univrse Civilizer of hu man--- The owner of all That was. Then I became a ****, Dragged screaming to a distant land, Lost from my people--- Beaten Chained, Stripped of pride, Dumped on a cold Alien land of death White evil; Chained Robbed Beaten. I survived--- A colored man Emerged--- **** to the core, Straining to remember A past that paled In distant memory, Still stripped of knowing Who and What I am--- Clawing at the past for a glimpse Of what was. Working hard though Cause MASTA said "Good boys do that", Good boys who come In ALL sizes--- All colors, All ages--- As long as he bowed his head and looked At his feet And answered to tobbie or fiddler--- Couldn't read or cipher Couldn't write or spell, White teethed and peppercorned hair, Jus' a good ole' boy Searching for SELF The pure black African KING Self. The Negro replaced the colored man, Still a boy though ---so Mister Charlie said--- Clinging to his African Queen, A NEGRO woman, a mother needing his SELF; Straining for what was rooted in dark Civilized African soil And loving his children. Then---then He got BLACK With a capital B Beautiful, Black, and Proud, A real metamorphosis Pulling himself up To full man size Proud And beautiful Growing into the AMERICAN AFRICAN. Kente cloth and African names. Wolof, Ibo Mandingo. Masta's name no good--- Growing with national PRIDE A Malcom, and a Garvey, An Ashante and McGill An America African.
