School Replaces Detention-with-meditation
|
Posted By: Jeni Fa on October 03, 2016 The Robert W. Coleman School in Baltimore came up with a brilliant alternative to detention. Instead, they have a Mindful Moment Room, a brightly colored “Oasis of calm” room that looks about as far as you can get from the traditional windowless detention room typically used to punish rowdy kids. It’s all part of an after-school programme called Holistic Me, an initiative that teaches children to practice meditation and breathing exercises while encouraging them to talk to behavioral professionals. The results so far have been pretty amazing. Since starting the programme, there has been exactly zero suspensions last year, and this year so far as well. http://upshout.net/school-replaces-detenti...
