Posted By: Carmen Colon on July 23, 2008 iCOPE of NYC (the independent Commission on Public Education of NYC)wants the world to know (OUR COMMUNITY TO KNOW) that Mayoral Control (where the Mayor controls the money AND the decision making without community oversight) IS NOT how our Public School System should be run. The NY State Law that created this injustice will SUNSET in June 2009 (ONLY) IF we let the legislators KNOW the real deal and if we stay strong and push for this together. We want the law to SUNSET (GO AWAY, NEVER COME BACK). So learn about how this system negatively keeps back Black/Latino children and then join the campaign.-- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."It is precisely because education is the road to equality and citizenship, that it has been made more elusive for Negroes than many other rights. The walling off of Negroes from equal education is part of the historical design to submerge him in second class status.
