Did you know that you have a Black National Anthem?

Did you know that you have a Black National Anthem?
Posted By: Jessica Dillon on August 05, 2008

Well, its me again. I haven't gone anywhere. My mother always told me to pick my battle, and while I was searching the the wonderful world wide web. I cam across this webiste, http://www.black-network.com/anthem.htm. Saw that blacks have their own National Anthem. Which got me thinking. Blacks are stating that they want all races to become one. Well, if you want that. Then why do you have your own National Anthem? Is the orginial National Anthem not good enough for you? I was under the impression that the orginial National Anthem was for everyone. Everyone, meaning every race. Why do you need your own Anthem?

Are the blacks trying to segregate?

For those who didn't know you had your own National Anthem, here is a copy.

LIFT EV'RY VOICE AND SING
also known as "The Black National Anthem"
by James Weldon Johnson

Lift ev'ry voice and sing,
Till earth and heaven ring.
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise,
High as the list'ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chast'ning rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet,
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might,
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest our hearts, **** with the wine of the world, we forget Thee,
Shadowed beneath thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.

Aren you serious, do you really call that deep thinking? Because if you where really thinking, you would not have written this blog, you would have realized that at the time that the "National Anthem" was composed, the Europeans who had migrated to North America were celebrating their independence. While the Africans who had been captured and forced into slavery were considered nothing more than property, not American citizens, PROPERTY. That song was not written for Blacks so why should we embrace it?
Your really should listen to your mother, she gives you good advice. Why don't you pick up a book and read it instead of looking for black singles on line (cause I know thats what you were doing).
As for our wanting to separate, I personally don't believe in taxation without representation. What about you?

Jessica, I am not going to say to you what came across my mind when I say the title of your blog. Answer to your question is YES most if not all are aware of the Black Anthem and Sonya is correct about when it and why it was formed in the first place. I truly would recommend that you educate yourself on the history and then come back with a blog about what you have learned.

Try reading a book titled " At the hands of persons unknown" by Phillip Dray.

It's a start to giving you a window and know the author is not a person of color.

hehe that was a funny question... You asking that question about blacks having a national anthem, is like asking americans why we have a national anthem (for our nation). Anyways, nobody here wrote that song, we can either like it, embrace it, sing it, or not, but for you to question why somebody made it is rhetoric and a waste of your own time because you may end up arguing with people that have every right to love the song if they choose. But none of them decide to write it. If you are asking, why do we embrace it, well, hopefully for some of the same reasons you might embrace our own national anthem.

Jessica, please, study the origins of certain issues before you step out on Ignorant Blvd to comment. Please. Will you just do THAT much?

Blessings...

Dee Gray, I will take your comment into consideration. But, just like you and million of other people do. I go by what I read and hear. I was not ignorant. I was posting a blog in my interest. Can I call you ignorant when you post a blog or make a comment about my origins? Won't hurt for you or anyone else for that matter to read different origins or issues. But, this is only my opinion. Name calling is for children. We are suppose to be adults.

Will YOU just do THAT much?

The African American Family ORIGIN is Africa Asia

....and ABSOLUTELY all Americans NEED to make a comment and "read different issues"

Title would be GREATER(in my opinion).. if it READ

"Did you know Americans have a GREAT African Asian History, Scholarship and Science BEFORE

the evil divisive RACISTLY IGNORANT paganChristian slaverAmericana 1776-1864(1964)?"
