I've been doing my family research for twenty years ans I still get excited when I find traces of a relative somewhere. We as a people need to understand that most of the things we have been taught is based on a lie. We were taught the european viewpoint. We were less then human because we came from the dark continent. A place where only savages lived. We were insignificant because our homeland is insignificant. That is simply not true.Just look at Africa on a map. It's huge! It's the birthplace of humanity. The source of conquers and kings, sitientists, inventors, artists, engineers and great thinkers. We excelled in learning and trade. We in America are as Malcolm X once said are a people lost. We were taken from our homeland, culture, religion and each other. We need a sense of who we are and where we come from so we can accept where we need to go in ther future. Our children will only suffer and lose their opportunity to a successful future if they don't learn their heritage now. How I agree with you! Teaching our children is the only way to let them know our success, failures and the never ending family connections. We have to all get on the same page. Schools are not teaching what the kids need to know to bring themselves up, so the parents need to step in and do MORE!
