Some people believe the corporate music industry has hijacked hip hop and created forms, e.g., gangsta rap, which are highly detrimental to the sustenance of the Black community in the U.S. and the Black World. Hip Hop founders/pioneers/leaders Grandmaster Mele Mel, Kool Moe Dee, LA Sunshine, and DJ Cool Clyde, along with founders/practitioners of the Black Arts and Culture Movement Haki Madhubuti, Sonia Sanchez, Jaribu Hill and Askia Muhammad Toure are issuing a call for all righteous new generation hip hop and rap artists and cultural workers to join them in New Orleans at SOBWC.
