Therefore, we are committed to orienting/training servant leaders, especially young people, to empower people of African descent to struggle for social justice and social change in the U.S. and throughout the Pan African World. The Institute will begin November 19th at 1:00 PM and conclude Friday November 21st at 12:00 Noon – with sessions on: Overview of the State of African People in the U.S. and the Pan African World; General Principles of Leadership and Community Organizing; Basic Strategy and Tactics of Community Organizing; Confronting and Overcoming Internalized Racism and Oppression; Basics of Electoral Political Campaigns; and, Basic Principles and Strategies for Community Development. Faculty of Trainers: Mtangulizi Sanyika, Makani Themba-Nixon, Greg Akili, Dr. Jemadari Kamara, Kimberley Richards, Ron Chisom, Hulbert James, Dr. Kimberly Ellis, Dr. Ron Daniels ________________________________________________________________________ National/International Town Hall Meeting The Black Agenda and the 2008 Presidential Election Moderators: Bev Smith, Host of the Bev Smith Show, American Urban Radio Networks Charles Ogletree, Harvard Law School Jesse Climenko Professor of Law. Panelists: Marc Morial, President/CEO National Urban League; Rev. Al Sharpton, President, National Action Network (NAN); Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, President, National Rainbow/PUSH Coalition; Ben Jealous, the new President/CEO, NAACP; Dr. Julianne Malveaux, President, Bennett College for Women; Dr. Ronald Walters, Professor of Government and Politics, University of Maryland; Dr. Elsie Scott, President/CEO, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation: Dr. Iva E. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, Leader of the Nation of Islam, also has been invited to be a panelist for the Town Hall Meeting. ________________________________________________________________________ An Intergenerational Dialogue on the Future of Hip Hop and the Black Freedom Struggle One of the hottest Working Sessions/Workshop at SOBWC will address the historical role of Black art and culture in the Black Freedom Struggle and the current state of hip hop and rap music in this context. Some people believe the corporate music industry has hijacked hip hop and created forms, e.g., gangsta rap, which are highly detrimental to the sustenance of the Black community in the U.S. and the Black World. Hip Hop founders/pioneers/leaders Grandmaster Mele Mel, Kool Moe Dee, LA Sunshine, and DJ Cool Clyde, along with founders/practitioners of the Black Arts and Culture Movement Haki Madhubuti, Sonia Sanchez, Jaribu Hill and Askia Muhammad Toure are issuing a call for all righteous new generation hip hop and rap artists and cultural workers to join them in New Orleans at SOBWC. Their mission is to launch a campaign to reclaim hip hop and revive the Black Arts and Cultural Movement to uplift and liberate our people! ________________________________________________________________________ Register Today without Delay!
