Bulletin # 1

Program Highlights

Damu Smith Leadership Development and Organizer Training Institute
Limited to 200 Persons – Registration: $200.00 inclusive of all SOBWC sessions

Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah **** may not think that “community organizing” is important but the Institute of the Black World 21st Century believes that mobilizing/organizing people to promote and defend their interests is fundamental to the survival and development of oppressed people. Therefore, we are committed to orienting/training servant leaders, especially young people, to empower people of African descent to struggle for social justice and social change in the U.S. and throughout the Pan African World.

The Institute will begin November 19th at 1:00 PM and conclude Friday November 21st at 12:00 Noon – with sessions on: Overview of the State of African People in the U.S. and the Pan African World; General Principles of Leadership and Community Organizing; Basic Strategy and Tactics of Community Organizing; Confronting and Overcoming Internalized Racism and Oppression; Basics of Electoral Political Campaigns; and, Basic Principles and Strategies for Community Development.

An Intergenerational Dialogue on the Future of Hip Hop
and the Black Freedom Struggle

One of the hottest Working Sessions/Workshop at SOBWC will address the historical role of Black art and culture in the Black Freedom Struggle and the current state of hip hop and rap music in this context. Some people believe the corporate music industry has hijacked hip hop and created forms, e.g., gangsta rap, which are highly detrimental to the sustenance of the Black community in the U.S. and the Black World.

Hip Hop founders/pioneers/leaders Grandmaster Mele Mel, Kool Moe Dee, LA Sunshine, and DJ Cool Clyde, along with founders/practitioners of the Black Arts and Culture Movement Haki Madhubuti, Sonia Sanchez, Jaribu Hill and Askia Muhammad Toure are issuing a call for all righteous new generation hip hop and rap artists and cultural workers to join them in New Orleans at SOBWC. Their mission is to launch a campaign to reclaim hip hop and revive the Black Arts and Cultural Movement to uplift and liberate our people!
