Series: Scenes from My Favorite Movies - "The Prince of Tides" w/Barbra Streisand/Nick Nolte (1891 hits)
Like Malcolm X, this movie should have gotten an Oscar or two, but like Malcolm X, it was snubbed by the Oscars. This was Ms. Streisand's directorial debut and she did a bang up job.
This movie tells the story of a family's struggles with some seriously bad past demons. Most affected seem to be the twins, played by Nick Nolte and I forget the actresses name. In any case, she attempts to commit suicide over and over again because of something so dastardly, she can't talk about it. It's up to Tom (Nolte's character) to help save Savannah and free her from her past. This is accomplished through therapy from Dr. Lowenstein (Savannah's psychiatrist, played by Streisand).
Ya'll if you haven't seen it, rent it. It is so deep and it reaches deep in to some of the issues that plague the black communicty as well. Some pain is universal, whomever it happens to. This movie is an example of that.
This scene is a flashback scene to their childhood, with a mean father and innovative mother!
