The HBCU Experience: Life At Howard (11785 hits)

Using Howard University, US News and World Report dives into the notion of attending an HBCU as opposed to a primarily white institution. HBCUs make up only 3% of colleges in the US, but attributes up to 14% of African-Americans attending college.

My wife, son and daughter, as well as myself have all graduated from Howard. Needless to say, I am very satisfied with the educational experience represented by my families Howard University exposure. My wife and kids could have attended just about any college or university in the United States. Each chose Howard. My experience was basically from a "white prospective." This prospective made me somewhat apprehensive about the value of an HBCU education until I arrived at Howard. Instantly, I saw the distinct advantage of th HBCU experience. I am very glad for my experience with the HBCU.

I am a graduate of HBCU receiving my undergraduate degree in business from FAMU and my graduated degree from VUU. My daughter is a senior at Albany State University where she is also the reigning Miss Albany State. I encourage all to send support our HBCUs by encouraging family and friends to attend. They will recieve the best education for the money and have an experience that you can't get at other institutions. I found that most professors at HBCUs teach not just academics but lessons in and for life.

I received my undergarduate degree from an HBCU and my son is preparing for college the fall of 2010. All of the schools he is applying for are HCBU !!!. No one can educate you like an HBCU. At an HBCU you are not a number but a person whom the staff is intersted in. Most of my dearest friends are also graduates of HBCU
