HAITI MISSION AS VOLUNTEER IS GETTING CLOSER, BUT YOUR HELP IS STILL NEEDED (PLEASE) (992 hits)

UPDATE...my son's mission to Haiti is closer, but he still needs your $1.00 .....please.

First, thank you to the angels who have already made a donation for my son, Marques Oliver!

Second, Some folks have been asking if Marques is on Facebook. Yes! Follow this link - http://www.facebook.com/reqs.php#/search/?... Please stay in touch with him!!!!!

Marques is born and raised in Baltimore, Md. He attended West Virginia University and ROTC-Army. His studies were interrupted to fight in Iraq. Marques did not re-enlist in the army after his tour in Iraq.

Marques decided to raise money on his own to go to Haiti because if he joins the Army again, there is no guarantee that he will be sent to Haiti and he does not want to risk being sent to Iraq (again) or Afghanistan. Marques feels God-inspired to use his skills and experience with medical technology and infrastructure in Haiti.

Marques has a facebook page also and please visit it if you can. Lastly, Marques is the son of Founder/President of Levine-Oliver Publisher (Agnes B. Levine) and if you are familiar with the Founder, Author, Speaker, you can easily see where Marques gets his sincere compassion for vulnerable humanity. Marques has a lifetime of experience with the disability community which is a real issue during this tragedy in Haiti.

By way of the Army, Marques currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has done volunteer work with Habitat For Humanity for the past six months now and that adds to his level of skills with infrastructure and experience with vulnerable populations.

Please, please feel safe in making a small $1.00 donation or in any amount. The links for donations are below. Thank you in advance for your time, responses, and prayers for a safe journey for Marques. amen? Amen!

Two local men making trip to Haiti call it non-negotiable

Las Vegas, NV - Many around the valley have been trying to find ways to help the Haiti earthquake victims, but for two men, traveling to Haiti themselves is the only option.

"It's non-negotiable," says Marques Oliver. "I can't sit on my couch any longer and watch CNN. Seeing these people that need help, knowing I have the skills to help, and not being able to do so is killing me inside." For Oliver's friend Jules Edouard Nau, who grew up in Haiti, the mission is more personal.

"It's emotional," says Nau. "I've lost a family member already."
Both men have military training, Marques did a tour in Iraq, and both have medical training. Despite the qualifications, they've been unable to find a church or aid group to help them get into Haiti.

"If I have to swim across the water to get there, it's what's gonna have to be done," says Oliver. They plan on taking a commercial plane as close as they can get, likely the Dominican Republican, then hitch hiking rides into Haiti. They've been saving up, raising money from friends, and plan to put their tax refunds this year towards the trip. With plans to leave next week, the two say they will stay in the earthquake ravaged country for as long as they're needed. In the meantime the two have been communicating with people on the ground via Facebook. In fact, that's how Nau learned his father was still alive.

"Thank God for Facebook," says Nau. "We have so many friends with wireless Internet and even though the phone lines are down, the Internet is still up. It's amazing!"

Through those communications, they've learned help is still desperately needed and they're determined to get to Haiti no matter what. "If I save one person, if I put a smile on one person's face, then it's worth it," says Oliver.
