Ted Haggard and Troy Sanders sounds off on Bishop Eddie Long Pt2 (1234 hits)

Bishop Carlton Pearson has spoken on the subject of homos*xuallity and gives it a new light. which brings new questions into the situation. What would the congregation and we as christians do if Eddie Long is gay? I saw Bishop Pearson a few years back on the stage with other pastors who had denounced and turned their backs on him and they seemed more angry that he had had a change of heart and now said that everyone could get into heaven even gays, jews, muslims etc and because he opened that door thats had always been closed in the black church rather than what he was saying was wrong as far as the bible was concerned.

@ Sister Anita,

Lying, Defrauding other Christians, and the Love of money is also a sin; Having said that, What do you suggest a homos*xual man or lesbian woman do where church is concerned, because they also love God?
Jen Fad
My answer is truly and honestly I don't know. Lying and defrauding others is wrong but in Long's case we don't know if that's what he did. I don't believe that you are born homos*xual. I believe that something happened in a persons life that made them that way. I have not met a person whom I talked to that is gay that didn't have something severe or traumatic happen to them from being coaxed into it like in college or by a friends. Young adults are inquisitive and try things and just like it. I don't know, I just don't think its normal but I could never hate anyone. I deal with too many gay and lesbian people in my every day existance.
I would just suggest that they continue to pray and ask God for guidance and understanding into their situation and ask God to guide their footsteps.
Certain pastors say they were gay and are not anymore. I don't believe it though. Donnie McClurkin was one and a few others who never came out and actually said. I guess its like don't ask don't tell. You're good to go as long as you don't speak on it. I do know one thing.
The church is going through some serious changes of sort, even before this Eddie Long story came to light and the pastors are going to have to ask themselves which road they are going to take. A religious one or one for financial gain.

The bible teaches us to love everyone and not to be judgmental. God loves everyone so much that He sent His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for ALL people (Jews, Greeks, Circumcised, Uncircumcised, etc...) It's wrong to preach exclusion and to be a hypocrite. I agree with Pastor Pearson... all people should be allowed to be whom they are and the Black church has done an injustice to Gay/Lesbian/Bis*xual/Transvestite
(GLBT) community.

I truly feel that many ministers especial the ones in the Black church are such hypocrites because we want other ethnicities to believe that we are unified and perfect when we are not. Let's stop the nonsense and be truthful to ourselves and to the world, because God already knows our secrets.

I love Eddie Long and the thing I don't like is how he has HURT so many GLBT people with his messages of Fire And Hell. It's not right. God will forgive him, but will the GLBT community? Many of these people have no hope of ever knowing who God is because of the messages similar to Long's and other well meaning people in the church.

Who amongst them (pastors/ministers/reverends) will give account to God on the Day of Judgement for the lost sheep that didn't come into the fold that God wanted to be apart of the Kingdom?

I believe there are many things that we don't understand where the scriptures are concerned and that's why Jesus sent the Holy Spirit or the Spirit of Truth to help us. Let's put away our personal opinions and stick to allowing the Holy Spirit (that many don't understand) do His job.

I agree with parts of your assessment Sister Jen and I agree with we should not be judgmental but God also tell s us and I’ll put it in my own words, beware of wolves in sheeps clothing. Just because something is, doesn’t mean you go along with it, because it is or is not popular and right now GLBT is popular. That doesn’t make it right.
I hold ministers accountable for being deceitful if they are not living the life they preach about, but I don’t think they are wrong in preaching against homos*xuality if they believe it to be a sin. I have been taught all of my life, that it is a sin and now I’m old enough to search the truth for myself, I know and say with conviction in my heart, it is wrong. That doesn’t stop me from loving and from praying for others who are not like myself.
We will all give account one day, not just ministers and God clearly tells us something even if its against the norm, we should show and prove his command and stand strong in our faith.
It’s a lot I don’t understand in the bible. I’m fairly new to the word, but I do know this, God says insist on this. Do not live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, do not come to know Christ that way. Ephesians 4:17

I know of a lot of religious folks who are on the DL. Someone very close to me is a musician in the ministry and tells me how many elicit affairs he has had with other musician, pastors etc in his travels. It truly is a shame and all I can say is they will be accountable in the end.

I took a political science class, years ago and for some reason the instructor, a white man, brought up something in reference to the story of Jesus, saying that any man that keeps company with twelve other men would be thought of today as they were thought of in the past. I just knew this was going to start a big conflict because one of our students was a Reverend. To my surprize there was no comments. Do you think that the teacher knew that he had a preacher as a student, and wanted to force a debate?

It's alright to agree to disagree. ((smiles))

@ Sister Lofton,
Who knows the answer to that question except the professor who asked the question, eh?
