THE MOST NEGLECTED CITIZENS IN THE UNITED STATES (308 hits)

It's not necessarily a citizen of race, nor a citizen of the military, nor a homeless citizen; but it is our country's eldery citizens. Often, I think of the eldery because of many reasons, but because I see them often alone, in public places and many of them being in poverty they have few family members that commit to taking care or seeing after them.

This also brings to attention those who are neglected by nursing homes and elderly shelters where thousands of them are abused. Some left to suffer and die. These are places where they may be considered only a name or a dollar sign for a business. Many elderly loose site of life and are generated to have those golden years tainted with depression and desperation. It is a harsh reality. These I consider the most neglected citizens in the United States. This does not account for the many elderly who are attacked, robbed and often killed.

It is a social negative very much needed to shatter, but it reflects where many of us today could end up. A little help goes a long way. There are ways we can help the elderly live out the rest of lives with hand of love. Perhaps next time you see a elderly ask yourself or them..."Is there anything I can do that can be helpful to this aging indivisual?" Ponder... Contact The Council on Aging for more facts on how one can help.

Help is available check into helping the aging!

Hello Mrs. Shields,

What could you do for the homeless Black Americans since Black Americans are not a sovereign people yet?

What say you?

@Clark--I wonder this often... I mean,.. we are aging and the record for our retirement funding of social security is looking bleaker than ever before. I relate to becoming older now, but there was time I didn't. I think that we are to be reminded of this; and like you said do what we can what we can to help out our neglected citizens! Family, or not aging people need attention our country has much to access as well. You have great preception and very true comments.

@ Butterfly, you are in my Amen corner!

Jake it's somewhat scary...We are aging and if we make it there we would like a little stability in retirement or nursing homes. Naturally, we know these conditions in many places aren't ever regulated with through checks for germs or cleaness. Everyone I've ever visited had smells of urine and stale orders. I understand some of this is to be expected, but much is attributed to neglect. Elderlys sit all day --and some lose any activity whatsoever...I think too; on a more basis of personal involvement is dearly helpful. We should aid our aging people. Jake loved your insight, and what looks like some plausable solutions to an "age old" problem. ... Okay..Muchas gracias!

Irma --our culture needs a much needed nudging to put it mildly! There is so much respect lost in aiding/helping the older generation. Our culture and history did not teach us to neglect the elderly! This seems to be where families have lost a lot of closeness and are refusing to assist ones that age ....and like Clark said put them away somewhere out of sight. Neglect is an awful photograph and pictures are worth a thousand words. I say a few words we need to see is ...HELP ME WHEN I'M OLD! I was inspired by seeing that elderly man today, and I see it has me thinking I really need to do more. Even if it's small I need to --and I plan on making that effort no matter how small. In our culture we must keep watch on the older ones, it's what we'd want when we get old. ..I know I would.

Yet the other side, is many elderly are managing well, still they deserve the thought that they are considered subjected to help too if they needed it....

Me, "I" am so very glad and proud to belong to a CULTURE where age results in more and more respect especially as in its senior citizens. (smile)

...but if we can be taught to go along with a government that has only moved from offering help to poor familys if the married F-A-T-H-E-R moves out of the home...to now

the pregnant teen can get public health care, food and shelter only if she moves out of the home of her parents...

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH NEGLECTIN THE ELDERS OF THE BLACK FAMILY AT ALL...

LETS CONTINUE TO BLAME THE WHITE MAN AND JUST KEEP ON DOING WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING ALL ALONG..REJECTING OUR MAIN SURVIVAL TOOLS THAT WE BROUGNT WITH US TO THESE SHORES. (SMILE)
