Sarah Palin Slams Michelle Obama in Racially Charged Passage From New Book (2517 hits)

An Excerpt from Geoffrey Dunn of the Washington Post:
In passages leaked from her forthcoming book America by Heart, Sarah Palin -- the erstwhile quitter governor of Alaska, who now, by all indications, fancies herself as President of the United States -- has taken another cheap shot at First Lady Michelle Obama.

In a passage on perceptions of racial inequality in the United States, Palin slams President Barack Obama, who, she asserts, "seems to believe" that "America -- at least America as it currently exists -- is a fundamentally unjust and unequal country.
And then she goes after Michelle Obama:
Certainly his wife expressed this view when she said during the 2008 campaign that she had never felt proud of her country until her husband started winning elections. In retrospect, I guess this shouldn't surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright's church listening to his rants against America and white people.
The passage -- coming on page 26 in a chapter entitled "We, the People" -- echoes remarks made by Palin on the eve of the midterm elections, at a rally in San Jose, California, at which point she mocked remarks made by Michelle Obama during the 2008 campaign: "You know, when I hear people say, or had said during the campaign that they've never been proud of America," Palin spat out. "Haven't they met anybody in uniform yet? I get tears in my eyes when I see that young man, that young woman, walking through the airport in uniform...you too... so proud to be American."

In fact, Michelle Obama's remarks were made (in Madison, Wisconsin, during the 2008 campaign) in a context of Americans being "unified around some basic common issues":

What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something--for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction, and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I've seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it's made me proud.
Afterwards, the First Lady further clarified her remarks by noting that she was referencing the "record number" of young voters participating in the political process in the 2008 campaign:

For the first time in my lifetime, I am seeing people rolling up their sleeves in way that I haven't seen and really trying to figure this out, and that's the source of pride I was talking about.
The passages from Palin's latest book first appeared at Palingates, where several other pages from American by Heart have also been posted. Palin followed up her comments about Michelle Obama by throwing an elbow at U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, also focusing on racial overtones:

It also makes sense, then, that the man President Obama made his attorney general, Eric Holder, would call us a "nation of cowards" for failing to come to grips with what he described as the persistence of racism.

Wow Sarah Palin is the quintessence of the word EVIL. She has no idea what it means to have been disenfranchised or oppressed and she has no idea what Mrs. Obama’s statement meant to the African American Community. Ms. Mama Grizzley is on her way to splitting this country in half. Blacks against Whites. She is clearly a racist in high heels and is out to obtain her own notoriety and everybody else be dammed. I don’t hear Christian anywhere in that analogy. Many see through her smoke screen, ex:
Award-winning writer and filmmaker Geoffrey Dunn's book The Lies of Sarah Palin: The Untold Story Behind Her Relentless Quest for Power will be published by St. Martin's Press in April of 2011, can’t wait!

Im not sure what you mean sista. Do you think we should say these things out in public? Do you think they will be allowed to be heard? Do you think we will be demorialized and made to look crazy as they made Rev. Wright out to be, after all everything he said was right. We the people have been a disenfranchised people. , Blacks have never had a reason to believe in our country, when in the past and even now we are not considered equal. Slaves in a country built on their backs, no right to walk, talk or even vote, for what you believe in, considered beneath everybody, even questioned our brain size as not being the same quality as those of white men, when we are in all actuality the creators of medicine, science, astronomy, art, architecture, military, agriculture and even religion. Now maybe Rev. Wright shouldn't have preached this in a religious platform, but the fact remains he was telling the truth. I love my people, but we need to open our eyes. We've had platforms in the past and look what happened to our leaders. They've all been murdered in one capacity or another, the same thing they are doing to our president. Our president is so peaceful, but I believe theres gonna be some changes in the future and I just hope we are all able to maintain.
African Studies you say: Thats a good idea. Checking into it as we speak.

[Wow Sarah Palin is the quintessence of the word EVIL....]

I don't know Sister Anita if I would go as far as saying she's evil, because she's a Christian and love the Lord Jesus but perhaps what's she's good at is playing politics. I've grown fund on Palin in the last few months and understand that there are still strides to be made for us all as women and as minorities. With that said, we can all agree on somethings that we have in common like First Lady Obama was trying to convey. Hopefully Democrats, Republicans, and Tea Partiers will stop playing politics with the Amercian people and really do what they were elected to do~~~ Help us.

Here I have to agree with former Reagan speechwriter and Conservative columnist Peggy Noonan who called her an IGNORAMOUS.

True.

And yes, Irma, you are the VOICE OF WISDOM!!!

OK you guys don't underestimate Ms. Sarh. Look at the next blog pt 2 and look at some of the evidence I've found. She's a smart cookie. Her problem is she says what she feels, like wearing her heart on her sleeve and that makes her more powerful than even she knows.

Anita--

You are so right on this. She is really slick and powerful and she knows how to manipulate public opinion.

I don't think the political professionals, both Republican and Democrat, do underestimate her. The Republicans (namely Karl Rove and other potential Presidential candidates like Mitt Romney) are scared to death of her. They don't want to alienate her supporters--but they also do not want her to be the party's nominee.

True, she has millions of die-hard followers. But she also has many more millions who distrust her and think she is all about her own power.

The evidence? Look what happened in the recent Senate election in her own backyard in Alaska. Her arch enemy, the woman Palin has been feuding with she defeated Sen. Murkowski's father to become Governor in the first place soundly knocked off Palin's boy--without even having her name on the ballot.

The former Governor is not very popular in her home state--and that fact speaks to the notion that the more folks get to know her, the more she opens her mouth, the less impressed people are.

Yeah, she is smart all right. But folks aren't as dumb as she thinks to fall for her crap.

Ouu you just said it plain as day. Sarah's mistake is that she is dividing the party. If she had any sense at all she would have taken a different route and tried to bring the Tea Party and GOP's together. Then they could have dominated this past election. My concern is if the GOP capitulates under her thumb we all are going to be in trouble. Those fools up in office need to come together and try to get something done and Mama Grizzley ain't the answer!

"Right On Rev. Wright!" When the truth is spoken...It's usually not heard and/or seen.
"The Hate that Hate Produced!"

Wishful thinking and feeling is Hope that palin just goes away...on the other hand, "Keep your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer." Folks really shouldn't pay this Evil Person any attention...but "Evil is What Evil Does!" As far as her being Christian - We've seen what Christians do to one another, yes? Who threw whom to the lions?

Go and ask Constantine.

Good piece...

May God Bless Us All...and the OBAMA'S!

So right Brotha Clark and I have a feeling we are going to be in the shock of our lives. She's high on herself and her power right now. She's won a coup, with her candidates in the white house, where they are going to get in and run a muck, to her daughter actually dancing in the finals on dancing with the stars, her book signing tour and now her drama reality show on tv. She thinks shes king of the GOP and she is. She's going to throw her hat in the ring in 2012 and if the Dem's are not careful, that crazy women is going to be the first woman president. She's going to either look magnificent or look like a complete idiot. She's got all of McCain's camp educating her on every national policy. You're right, we have to get aggressive and point out all the things the GOP are blocking. I just hope President Obama wakes up soon and realizes history shows us that when the opposition is in control, they will never submit.

My oh my, Anita! What you submitted here portends something so ominous for the country. This is especially true if President Obama is not sent back to the White House in 2012! It is definitely something to keep watching to see if a 'pattern'-for these kind of remarks-is being set.

Thank you for sharing...

Thanks Brotha Bill for your input, but I’m only stating facts. There is no way the GOP’s should have taken over the House this election, but the vitriol that came out of the Republicans mouth demoralizing our president, like it was his fault, the conditions we find ourselves in and not the last 8 years of being under the republicans reign. I’m reminded of something Minister Farrakhan said, “If we are not careful, the Republicans citing violence is going to cause something to happen to our president and then there is going to be a revolution this world has never seen. It would be shameful for some idiot whose mind has been filled with this unnecessary garbage, to be incited to act upon what the right wingers like Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and others are saying to cause those beautiful little girls and their precious mother, Sista Michelle to loose their father and husband. So yes I believe we better be extra careful, as well as those watching the back of our president because there is some foul smelling substances in the air.

Palin's mistake is two fold...in her quest for money and attention she has over looked Public over kill...

She still have some legal matters hanging over her head in the state of Alaska on her abuse of powers...

and the worst thing one can to is to run for office with countless (or even hints of )public scandal waiting for ones opponent to use against them...

Me, I believe it is going to be her own daughter to prove to be the straw taht breaks Sarah Palin's political and money bank account's back. (smile)

Sister Anita, If only a few of us are able to look at what Palin is saying about rev. J. w. and try to tie the minister to our history in how and why we fought so hard to get the right to have our own Black church was by the messages like those of Rev. Wright...

or even better take a few African and African-American study classes then we will better be able to learn that if Sarah Palin is wrong then we must admit we are wrong for causing her to be able to say out in public what we are saying amonge our ownselves...

because if Palin is wrong then we are much, much more wronger that her because she is not african-american. (smile)

YES WE CAN, YES WE MUST, YES WE WILL...

Anita, here is an example of where I am coming from and at 68 I try to share what I have experienced directly and some of what I have learned as a Aarican and African-American study major...you see I grew up learning about our history when we were allowed to have black history W-E-E-K which was all about slavery...today we have a chance to learn slavery directly form the writtings of slaves...and please believe me we have been against in a sense the Black church it self because rev. J.W. ahs the nerves to teach our history in the same manner as the Black Panthers forced this country to teach us which is African-centered not european centered...oh and lets not forget the main reason we must hate the NOI is because they teach black pride...you know things like don't allow drugs in your community...creat a job in your own community so that you will not goon welfare...

you see welfare has advanced from not allowint the father to remain in the home to now the pregnant teen cn not remain in teh family home to continue he socialization...oh and to add to us demeaning ou rown she is given a check which she must hand over to the boyfriend on pay day...but not to worry we now have no knowledge about our own history therefore we have no idea that this need and damand and the original B.P although going on th FBIs most wanted list still did not give up in their fight to tey and counter act President L.B.J. 's teacings that I see too to ofern repeated by our youth...

THE BLACK UNWED MOTHER IS THE CAUSE OF ALL OF AMERICA'S PROBLEMS...

and, now that "I" have calmed down I will get back to answer your question Anita...AT THE AGE OF 16 WHEN WE WERE ABOUT TO PUT OUR LIVES ON THE LINE BY GOING TO OUR LOCAK DRUG STORE IN JACKSONVILLE, N.C. TO BUY A HOT DOG AND DRINK ANS SIT DOWN TO EAT IT IN THE FRUG STORE...THESE ARE THE WORDS SPOKEN TO US...

"WHAT YOU DO TODAY YOU MAN NOT SEE ANY RESULTS FOR THE NEXT 40 YEARS...Anita what 16 year old is interested in 40 years in the future?!!!!!!!!!? and, I promise you it hurts but our youth are right now headed to what the reason the 60s was all about...but it is a new day and most of our churches don't raise money with those friday night fish frys...we saw our church as more than a place for those like the Clintons to be members of Y_E_S a black liberatio church the whole time they were in th whitehouse...and even better the church they attended was lead by a prescher wh went to the same college as Wright at the same time and does the same kind of preaching and the man was seen on MSNBC along with its members saying the Clintons never walked out on any of the preachers sermons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is information we are not interested in passing on and we have access to the WWW...all it takes os one person to be a leader not having the mass media pick our leaders...what use does the media have for Jesse Jackson and it all has to do with what went on in Jena, Ls...yes love the Rev wrights because the media hs taught he is bad has been good for the take over of tose who have returned to gettin ginto power in D.C. bu out racist ing the next racist as in the teaparty v republicans as we relearn our place as in the 50s...

Tose youth taht came in to support our president did so because they now have ethnic study and yes they are pissed...but look how the right has been able to use this against them also making being angry a threat to ur country and it was caused by our president that went to that anit-god, anti-american church...a church that has me so proud because every thing ou t of wright's mouth I learned in my major in A-A study...and yes evenmore important Anita, I have learned it is not about me, it is about my children and grandchildren...because this is what that 40 years was all about. (smile)

thanks so much once again to be able to vent or to talk about our history from an African-centered point of view not the Palins or the right-wing or the teaparyy's point of view. lol (smile)
