BIA MEMBERS I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT AFFIRMATIVE ACTION... (542 hits)

Does anyone know if programs similar to this exist in other countries throughout the world which have a predominately white population and a significant population of people of color?

Just curious...

I will lok around but off the top of my head only americas both of them enslaved chattle and or ruthlessly other race...the indians they slaughtered and bamboozled...Other countries enslaved eachother... aside from social prefferances, stand a surb next to a frenchman next to a German... and so on kinda like mullattos did back in the days they passed no afirmative action needed. But anywhere where black folk go they stand out...except parts of India and Africa. I know without afirmative action we would be even further behind the curve in this land. the word ruthless...

Hello Siebra,

The answer to your question is emphatically no! Affirmative-action came about because of White America's greatest sin, the sin of slavery! There are no other people existing in the world today in the same circumstances that Black Americans were born in. The only time such an incident very similar to ours was in full play was when the children of Israel were in bondage in Egypt almost 4000 years ago.

Okay.

I'm impressed quite a few countries have implicated similar programming! Canada.. Asia... Finland... and Sri Lanka. In 1971 the Standardization policy of Sri Lankan universities was introduced as an affirmative action program for students from areas which had poor educational facilities due to 200 years purposeful discrimination by British colonialists. The British had practised communal favoritism towards Christians and the minority Tamil community for the entire 200 years they had controlled Sri Lanka, as part of a policy of divide and conquer.

I can't say for certain there is one exactly like Affirmitive Action. Other countries tend to operate government programs slightly differently. Many times programs such or similiar to this one perform differently to the needs of people. Often these I can only speculate are rare or are in non-existence

I can't find many programs similar to this in other countries...But one thing I do know, in the United States Whites and other races have benefited from Affirmative Action far more than Black people in general have. And even among the Black people who do benefit from it....it's usually the upperclass educated types who don't really need it in the first place.

In other words if you are wealthy already and come from good connections you can use it to get into good colleges and corporate jobs, but if you're coming from a poor background from the wrong family all the programs they have to offer won't help you anyway because you don't even have a way to link up with those charged with implimenting the policies.
