WHERE: Laughlin Hall, CHURCH OF ST. LUKE IN THE FIELDS, 487 Hudson Street, NYC.

WHEN: 7-9 PM, Friday, February 25, 2011

ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND (SynergEbooks 2010) by Richard Kigel tells the improbable story of history’s first successful attempt to fly. According to Josiah Brantley, born a slave in Virginia, it wasn’t the Wright Brothers who did it.

Blending fiction and history, science and fantasy, ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND is a whimsical, high-spirited adventure through the darkest corners of our American past, a celebration of ingenuity and perseverance, a triumph of the human spirit.

REVIEWS: ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND: The Untold Story of History”s First Flight
by Richard Kigel

Mr. Kigel presents this unique tale with each character described in such detail the reader can virtually perceive facial expressions at every situation. This book has nearly everything: suspense, wit, compassion, detailed craftsmanship,; and of course—we are talking about slavery here—pain and empathy.

--CRAIG AMOS, HOUSTON, TEXAS

History's first successful flight is told with a blend of fiction and factual history, science, and fantasy in a highly spirited adventure. Richard Kigel's ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND: The Untold Story of History's First Flight is brilliantly put to pen and paper. A masterful account of a collaboration of spirited ingenuity and perseverance - a triumph of the true human spirit.

--GREGORY BOULWARE, PHILDELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

I call ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND a living, breathing description of my historical cultural means of survival for over 300 years of racial discrimination. And we have been able to do so because in every family we have an extended family unit made up of folks like Auntie Bee and Mose and Josiah. Our cultural unsung hero is Auntie Bee, a tower of strength in physical and mental courage.

This is my culture, my history which has been covered so expertly and so inspirationally and brought so much enjoyment reading ON THE WINGS OF THE WIND by Richard Kigel.

--IRMA ROBINSON, MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA

Excellent read. A PERFECT 10! It is amazing and I was hooked on it from beginning to end. I received the book about two weeks ago and read it with admiration. This book deserves to be in every school classroom and public library because it shows that you can accomplish anything in life. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction. The author's research on slavery is impressive and I think that he has really captured the thoughts and feelings of slavery that are very deep and hopeful. Overall it is one of the most phenomenal books I've ever read.

--SIEBRA MUHAMMAD, NEW ORLEANS, LOUSIANA

The book On The Wings of the Wind: The Untold Story of History’s First Flight is a fictional story based on historical facts lost to history. It is emotional, heartwarming and full of lessons from the past. The title evokes metaphorical experiences expressed by all who dreamed of freedom and a place they could call home, of dreamers whose dreams did not dry up like a raisin in the sun.

The author, Richard Kigel, uses quotes from famous people who kept their dreams alive regardless of adversity. Even though the first person narrative tells the story of a slave, anyone who reads this story can gain inspiration from the lesson in fortitude, character and perseverance. The use of the first person draws the reader into the story and helps form a personal relationship with the narrator. The author captured the soul of the characters and gives the reader a taste of the raw emotions of a people who are not supposed to feel at all.

Mr. Kigel’s ability to blend history, science and fiction into a plausible occurrence is unique and serves to add authenticity to the story. One has to remind oneself that the story is historical fiction.

If you are looking for a gentle read, spiced with adventure, suspense, humor and a glimpse into a forgotten past, get a copy of On The Wings of the Wind by Richard Kigel

Siebra--You know, her brother will be there.

I don't know if I told you this...but the character Auntie Bee was modeled after a woman who is close to me, someone who remains dear to my heart, even though she has passed away.

Her brother told me that he would be there!!! So I am looking forward to seeing him.

Endocardium Fibroelastosis!!! My professor is impressed ((but you know - my son)) after I found out about this disease... I became obsessed... This is going to be an easy paper... LOL!! Imagine how I was when I first heard of it.... It's the endocardium lining of the heart... doesn't have the ability to stretch (which it does as the heart pumps, grows, expands)! It's remarkable...

That's what I told my Professor.... My Grandfather taught me how to count with rocks and sticks... very well without using formulars! Go Figure!
