Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been spent and much more is committed to the military mission in Libya.
United States president Barack Obama has said it is in the country's national interest to have intervened in the north African state.
But the massive cost of yet another military campaign has had some questioning whether it's worth it.
Al Jazeera's Kimberly Halkett reports from Washington.
