Stillman's Dr. Linda Bradford was selected to serve as At-Large Member of NAFEO's (The National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher education) newly formed NAFEO Academic Deans of Education Council (NADEC) at the Inaugural Executive Committee meeting June 9, 2011, in Washington, DC.

Bradford, a native of Mount Vernon, Ala., serves as the Dean of Professional Education at Stillman. She graduated from The University of Alabama with a Ph.D. in English Education/Program and Staff Development. She began her tenure at Stillman in 2005. She teaches classes in the Harte Honors Program and has been in higher education for 32 years.

The purpose of this council is to provide leadership and support to NAFEO member institutions on issues related to educator preparation. The focus of this council shall be to provide a vehicle for the NAFEO institutions to expand capacity and ensure that collaboration among these institutions is part of a networked effort toward resolving issues pertinent to educator preparation such as: increasing the support and priority of the two to four year pipeline for student success; successfully addressing challenges related to PRAXIS I and II; assessing the impact of other single measure high-stakes testing on African-Americas PreK-16; successful preparation for NCATE / CAEP accreditation; developing and implementing HBCU distance learning capacities; increasing the number of highly qualified African-American teachers to address critical shortages; sharing what works at HBCUs and other best practices; influencing National education policy through the NAFEO collaboration; producing white papers from joint research efforts to advise NAFEO and the nation; assisting schools in identifying and securing sources of revenue for scholarships and other forms of student assistance; using technology in collaborations and capacity building; and providing technical assistance to other education units towards quality assurance both stateside and globally.

NAFEO is the 501 (c) (3), tax-exempt, not-for-profit umbrella organization of the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Founded in 1969, NAFEO is the only membership association of its kind, representing the presidents and chancellors of the diverse black colleges and universities: public, private and land-grant, two-year, four-year, graduate and professional, historically and predominantly black colleges and universities.

NAFEO was founded to provide an international voice for the nation's HBCUs; to place and maintain the issue of equal opportunity in higher education on the national agenda; to advocate policies, programs and practices designed to preserve and enhance HBCUs; and to increase the active participation of blacks at every level in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs in American higher education.
