IS THE LOVE OF MONEY REALLY THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL? (904 hits)

(By Djehuty Ma'at Ra) Logic would dictate that if the love of money is the root of all evil, then it stands to reason that the hatred of money is the root of all good.

Sounds absurd, right? Well, that's because it is. How can an inanimate object such as paper (dollar bills) when loved by people be the root of all evil?

Money is amoral, neither moral nor immoral. In our society, money physically is paper bills or dollar bills. These bills represent energy; energy in the form of belief and this belief is what gives the paper bills their value.

Even if our paper bills (Federal Reserve Notes) were still backed by gold and silver (which they're not, of course), the value wouldn't really be in these two tangible substances because these substances also only have value based upon people's individual and collective belief.

All value is based upon perception and because perception can be manipulated, so can the value of things. Because perception changes, so does the value in things.

"He who controls perception, controls value."

At one point in history, salt was considered money. Our English word "salary" derives from Latin and Anglo-Norman French words for "salt."

Salary. ORIGIN Middle English : from Anglo-Norman French salarie, from Latin salarium, originally denoting a Roman soldier's allowance to buy salt, from sal 'salt.'

Ever heard of the saying "worth one's salt?" Well, now you know where this saying came from and also the connection between 'salt' and 'worth.'

So money's real value is in the form of belief. Money is really energy and the paper bill is just a medium of exchange for energy.

When you work a job for money, you're exchanging energy for energy. Energy is exerted when you work, is it not? Whether the work is physical or mental, energy is being exerted on your part.

Now, how could the love of a medium of exchange constitute or be the root of all evil? I mean, really think about it! Many people such as myself love money and do no evil.

I know a lot of people who hate money but are in constant need of it at the same time while hating it. You will not attract what you hate or despise. Never!

And because many people can never attain money, it's easy for them to condemn it. But again, you'll never attract what you condemn. Never! Only that which is like unto itself is drawn in accordance pursuant to the Law of Attraction.

Money doesn't do evil nor does it do good in and of itself. It is people that use money to do good or to do evil. Money of itself can do nothing. Money serves people! Nothing else! Period!

It was people (American bankers and financiers) during WWII that financed Adolf Hitler which resulted in the deaths of many people, including hundreds of thousands of Jews. In this case, money was used to do evil.

Then you have people like Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates who donate millions of dollars to help people out by donating to educational causes and feeding the poor. In this case, money was used to do good.

We could say that New York drug dealers Nicky Barnes and Frank Lucas were evil men, especially for selling drugs to people - their own people to be exact, but Nicky and Frank also fed a lot of starving people in the slums of Harlem and the Bronx, especially during the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. So we have a case of two would-be 'bad' or 'evil' men who used money on occasion to do good.

And consider Chicago mobster 'Scarface' Al Capone, despite being a gangster (criminal), he fed thousands of people during the Great Depression at a time when the U.S. government was paying farmers to burn their excess of grains and other produce that could have otherwise fed starving people. Here we have a would-be 'bad' or 'evil' person in Capone doing good with his money in this isolated case, contrasted with people (politicians, elected officials) who are supposed to help people and do good by people, using their (actually, the taxpayer's) money to pay farmers to do a bad thing (burn up food that could have fed hundreds of thousands of starving people).

In all of the cases above pertaining to good deeds and bad deeds, it wasn't money that did the deeds, but people - human beings!

It should be clear that good and evil can only come from human beings.

When you truly learn the metaphysics of money or the occult science pertaining to money, you really understand why so many people are financially broke and destitute, especially a lot of so-called God-fearing people.

These people are greatly confused about money. They despise money (due to religious belief system programming) while simultaneously wanting and needing money. Well of course they want and need it because you need money to survive and thrive in our society. You need money to pay your rent or mortgage, your car note, your utility bills, your food and clothing, and your health care needs - prevention and remedy.

You even need money for credit because banks and lenders have a rule of lending money to people who have money and don't really need money. Nowadays, banks and lenders lend money to financially broke or impecunious people so as to trap them into incurring debt and thus owing more money. Banks take the debt incurred by the poor borrowers and use it to pay the rich people who allow their money to incur interest, thus we have a situation of the poor becoming poorer, and the rich becoming richer; and yes, it is the poor who are making the rich richer when you understand the dynamics at play here.

Money can help you to do so many other things besides these things above. Money can help us more effectively do our higher life's work. It can help us to take better care of ourselves as herbal products cost money, nutritional supplements cost money, massage therapy costs money, gym membership costs money, spa treatments cost money, manicures and pedicures cost money, chiropractic sessions costs money, and as you may know, eating good, healthy, natural and organic foods cost money.

Money simply helps us to survive or thrive. Personally, I choose to thrive rather than survive. The word "survive" carries a negative connotation and energy:

survive |sərˈvīv| verb [ intrans. ] continue to live or exist, esp. in spite of danger or hardship : against all odds the child survived.

Survive has in its definition the words "danger" and "hardship." The word "thrive" on the other hand does not:

thrive |θrīv| verb [ intrans. ] (of a child, animal, or plant) grow or develop well or vigorously : the new baby thrived. • prosper; flourish : education groups thrive on organization | [as adj. ] ( thriving) a thriving economy.

If there's anything that plays a role in man doing harm to others pertaining to money, it is the negative quality of greed or avarice.

greed |grēd|noun. Intense and selfish desire for something, esp. wealth, power, or food.

avarice |ˈavəris|noun. Extreme greed for wealth or material gain. ORIGIN Middle English : from Old French, from Latin avaritia, from avarus 'greedy.'

Greed deals with intense and selfish desire, the negative type of selfishness: the kind of selfishness where one thinks of self at the expense of doing harm to others.

And the worst type or level of greed is avarice - extreme greed!

Greed and avarice are responsible for a lot of evil in the world. Sometimes we think if we could just get enough money to get by, we'd be all right. However, more begets more, and the more we get the more we will want and it seems to just be human nature which is why so many people fall prey to greed. You see it all the time with attorneys, religious leaders (especially pastors and reverends), politicians and local civic leaders, drug dealers, corrupt law enforcement officials, and stockbrokers to name just a few.

Good movies that showcase greed (and avarice) include "Wall Street", "Malice", "The Devil and Daniel Webster", "A Simple Plan", "Armored", "Mad Money", and "Set It Off" to name a few. Movies reflect real life just as art imitates life.

Greed does not consider gratitude and is the result of 'lack consciousness' as well as 'fear consciousness.'

Greed is a result of not trusting in Universal abundance, prosperity, and affluence - believing that there is not more of a particular thing.

A greedy person acts as if when they receive something, they won't receive anymore of it. They fear more may not come in addition to fearing losing what they already have. So they want more and more but many times when this happens, one is sure to lose everything he has in the end. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens enough.

Greed has robbed many a man (and woman) of everything. They lose everything trying to get more. It's like that Debbie Harry (Blondie) song with the lyrics: More, More, More! But if one is not careful, intense and selfish desire can make a person lose everything as evidenced by the fable of "Fortune and the Beggar."

Please reference the fable of the Fortune and Beggar below:

"One day a ragged beggar was creeping along from house to house. He carried an old wallet in his hand, and was asking at every door for a few cents to buy something to eat. As he was grumbling at his lot, he kept wondering why it was that folks who had so much money were never satisfied but were always wanting more.

"Here," said he," is the master of the house - I know him well. He was always a good businessman, and he made himself wondrously rich a long time ago. Had he been wise he would have stopped then. He would have turned over his business to someone else, and then he could have spent the rest of his life in ease. But what did he do instead? He took to building ships and sending them to sea to trade with foreign lands. He thought he would get mountains of gold.

"But there were great storms on the water. His ships were wrecked, and his riches were swallowed up by the waves. Now his hopes all lie at the bottom of the sea, and his great wealth has vanished like the dreams of a night."

"There are many such cases. Men seem to be never satisfied unless they can gain the whole world."

"As for me, if I had only enough to eat and to wear I would not want anything more."

Just at that moment Fortune came down the street. She saw the beggar and stopped. She said to him: "Listen! I have long wished to help you. Hold your wallet and I will pour this gold into it. But I will pour only on this condition: All that falls into the wallet shall be pure gold; but every piece that falls upon the ground shall become dust. Do you understand?"

"Oh, yes, I understand," said the beggar.

"Then have a care," said Fortune. "Your wallet is old, so do not load it too heavily."

The beggar was so glad that he could hardly wait. He quickly opened up his wallet, and a stream of yellow coins was poured into it. The wallet soon began to grow heavy.

"Is that enough?" asked Fortune.

"Not yet" said the beggar.
"Isn't it (wallet) cracking, said Fortune?"

"Never fear", said the beggar.

The beggar's hands began to tremble. Ah, if the golden stream would only pour forever!

"You are the richest man in the world right now!" said Fortune.

"Just a little more," said the beggar. "Add just a handful or two."

"There, it's full. The wallet will burst", said Fortune. "But it will hold a little more, just a little more!" said the beggar.

Another piece was added, and the wallet split. The treasure fell upon the ground and was turned to dust. Fortune had vanished. The beggar had now nothing but his empty wallet, and it was torn from top to bottom. He was as poor as before.

Moral: Human desires often increase with the means of their gratification.

So, if anything is going to be considered the root of all evil due to its connection to money, greed (and/or avarice) would be a great candidate and far better than the "love of money."
