Alcorn Health Physics/ Advanced Technologies student selected for the prestigious US EPA Fellowship (1898 hits)

The Alcorn family is proud of George Osei, a junior majoring in the radiation technology/health physics program in the Department of Advanced Technologies, for being the recipient of the prestigious US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fellowship.

Every year, US EPA supports up to 40 outstanding undergraduate students nationwide to work on environment related research. The selection is very competitive and based on candidates’ grade point average, letters of support, and quality of their research project. The recipients of EPA fellowships are eligible to receive up to $10,000 a year in tuition expenses, $800 per month stipend, book and travel allowances, and a three-month internship with a stipend of up to $7,000 at EPA headquarters. The fellowship period is up to two years.

As his fellowship project Osei will conduct research on understanding radionuclide concentration in water, sediment, and fish collected in vicinity of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station under the supervision of Jermiah Billa, faculty in the HP program.

“Advanced Technology staff members are proud and elated that Osei was selected for the EPA outstanding fellowship,” stated Department Chair Dr. Kwabena Agyepong and associate professor Dr. Steve Adzanu.

“He is a hard working student always willing to put extra effort in his class and research activities,” added Billa, the recipient’s primary advisor.

“I am so excited to receive this award and appreciate my instructors, my family and especially my advisor for the support and encouragement that helped me successed in my academic activities,” shared Osei.
