During a news conference today in San Francisco the American Geophysical Union revealed a finding study of Mt. Kilauea's past. More than 200 years ago as legands go.. it was told that over 200 ancient warriors were en route near the summit of Mout Kilauea when Pele the Hawaiian goddness that lives insie the volcano got angry. While there the story old that more than 400 people lost lives in its deadly eruption in what is now known as the United States. Now geogolists have revealed that the legendary eruption happened in November 1790, but the deadly surge of lave had to be identified with Kilauea. Geologists presented information that according to its deposits and studies in their observatorary points more revelation of Kilauea's rage. Expert geologist Don Swanson did much of the fieldwork and developed an eye-opening timeline of the volcano's history. Swanson used advancements in radiocarbon dating along with fieldwork to identify and date tiny pieces of carbon.
Kilauea means "spewing" or "much spreading" in Hawaiian and Swanson noted that the volcano has be oozing lava since 1983. According to Swanson's data over the past 2,500 years Kilauea has been in an gentle explosive mood, he maintains that the volcano is in an explosive mood 60% of the time. Will the volcano be explosive again? Swanson explains scientists don't fully understand how explosions begin and poweful and dangerous volcanic periods can last hundreds of years.
