In brief...
Recently lawmakers in both parties developed a new requirement for birth control coverage. The plans in brief would allow that insurance coverage be provide birth control pills and preventive contraceptives . Under the current rule the plan only allows churches and houses of worships to be exempted for having contraception coverage for women they employ. New changes will make it part of their coverage for women employed by religious institutions. This created a lash from Catholic bishops whom have called the new health coverage rule "an attack on religious freedom." and argue that all employers who object to contraception--not only the faith based organziations should be exempt from having to provide the coverage for their employees. This would mean extracting the provision, and not simply changing it for Catholic employers and their insurers in plans related in religious groups. Majority of Americas according to a recent poll by the Public Religion Institute are in favor of the health plans, with 59% of Catholic respondants saying they are in agreement with the coverage. The President has reconsidered to make some revisions in the plans so that those who which to opt out of the coverage will be allow that choice, and will meet to take considerations that will accomodate concers of faith-driven employers. Ideas of using a similar plan from Hawaii by which an employee morals intercepts uses of contraceptives could use the op-out plan and be informed of where the could receive coverage and pay out-of-pocket. However, no indication that the Obama adminstration will copy Hawaii's plan. The adminstration is looking at ways that would involve a third part health company that would provide contraception coverage. Mostly, the Catholic bishops would like the plans exempted to any of their employees.
That's it in brief...
