Yesterday, The Griot posed the following question: What if Trayvon Martin were white? They then posted edited images of the victim and murderer, reversing Martin's and Zimmerman's races. To my own shame, I must admit that The Griot pulled my card, revealing my own buy-in into the race-conscious stereotype of black men and boys as suspicious. I was disappointed with myself. I am a communications professional and an artist dedicated to sharing positive images of black folk, but I fell for the okey-doke! In my conscious eyes, Zimmerman looked more criminal than Martin once he was depicted as a straight-faced, dark-hued black man. Perhaps I played some role in this? Perhaps I am part of the problem. The shame! Now, while I know my perspective in this matter will not immediately be very popular, I hope that my community can understand or respect it. Not only is it sincere, I believe it to also be powerful. In my opinion, a great many within the black community got this one, The Great Trayvon Martin Response, severely wrong for the outcome we desired. For, you see, as a group, the first place we looked for blame and responsibility beyond Zimmerman was outside ourselves, employing selective amnesia toward our own roles in the situation. Couldn't we have done anything differently prior to this murder? click the link below to read more... (PLEASE READ ENTIRE BLOG BEFORE RESPONDING. NOT INTERESTED IN UNINTELLIGENT ARGUING. I REALLY DO LOVE BLACK PEOPLE.) http://thedwperspective.blogspot.com/2012/...

Should Blacks accept more responsibility for Trayvon's death...NO!!! The bottom line is this... Zimmerman pursued Travon which made him the aggressor PERIOD. I don't give a damn how you try and twist the story up....Zimmerman was the aggressor and I don't think Zimmerman has a snow ball chance in hell. I was thinking that perhaps Zimmerman could plea for a lesser case such as manslaughter but he messed that up by him disobeying the order to cease his pursuit, so he intentionally created the situation for the murder of Travon Martin.

Media stories sharing the transcripts of the 911 tapes from the evening of the incident clearly show that Mr. Zimmerman was instructed by authorities to remain in his vehicle and to cease pursuit of Mr. Martin. George Zimmerman seems to have ignored the direction of the authorities and continued his pursuit of Mr. Martin. Mr. Zimmerman’s unnecessary pursuit and confrontation of Trayvon Martin elevated the prospect of a violent episode and does not seem to be an act of self-defense as defined by the castle doctrine. There is no protection in the “Stand Your Ground” law for anyone who pursues and confronts people. But of course there's always a stepping fetchit negro somewhere that's going to defend the aggressor...LOL

Hello Mr. D.w., The only and I emphasie ONLY responsibitily today that the race of Black Americans play in the death of Mr. Trayvon are the same responsibilities we played in the deaths of our ancestors commonly hanging from trees 100 years ago. That responsibility is that we must desire a permanent solution because Black Americans and Whte Americans are not the same people. The only permanent solution is our sovereignity in a country of our own with boarders that is a reasonable and futile portion of this continent. In other words, our permanent solution is no different from the solution between the Children of Israel and Pharoah since the Childern of Israel and the Egyptians are two different people, am I right.

D.W. wrote: "In fact, I say that Zimmerman is ABSOLUTELY responsible for "murdering" Trayvon. Let's allow that to be a stipulation." Then you say: "This isn't about Zimmerman's plea or sentence, but the responsibility or black people to see their role in this incident rather than making feeble attempts to convince white people that they should relate to our perspective." I always try to be as respectful as possible in my conversations but do you see how you just contradicted yourself in the above statements? Also, I see so many so-called brothers like you talking a bunch of foolishness about how Blacks should accept MORE responsibility for Trayvon Martin's Death...but what the hell did you brothers do about Troy Davis who was still alive??? Y'ALL DIDN'T DO ****! When I was passing the Troy Davis petition around online (which I knew wouldn't work but it was important to get the word out) I noticed it was easier to get white people and black women to sign it then black men. Not because the black men thought it was ineffective- but because they didn't give a damn! Where were you so-called brothers on that issue then when I was passing the petition around? Question that Mister D.W.!!! Since you (as you say) are a communication professional!!!

Mister D.W., I by no no means perceive myself to be perfect, I have my flaws just like everybody else. And I work in the school system as well. You say I'm attacking your character, yet that is exactly what you are doing with us with almost every ridiculous argument you've made here. I may be young in terms of age, but I am not foolish. I know how to handle myself in a debate. Apparently you cannot handle a debate which is why you disrespected Sisters Helen and Irma and why you accuse me of being like tami and evelyn (whoever they are). I can see straight through you...you want us to keep screaming over and over that WE are the ones responsible for Trayvon's death, WE are the reason why we in this condition, it's all our fault and all that other pep rally bull****, right? You use the same arguments (though not as effectively) as the slavemaster and those who have been worshipping him for 400 plus years. Why should we accept more responsiblity for Trayvon's death when Zimmerman was (and still remains) the direct cause of Trayvon's death? Brother, you need to get outta here with that nonsense and futhermore learn how to write an intelligent and civilized article because you don't know what the hell you're talkng about.

Hello Mr. D.W., So, you disagree with me! You say that God is to big to have only one solution. You say that recycling into our own communities are our solutions. I said that our only permanent solution is sovereignity, nation-hood and having a country of our own. In other words, what God did for the Childfen of Israel is precisely what has already begun to happen for us, Black Amefica. Apparently, you must not have understood my first respond to this blog because I'm repeating myself about what our only permanent solution is. Now, let's do some ryhme and reasoning to determine who is right because I like to conversate with intelligent people. If I can insert your solution into what I say is our only solution then my solution is superior to yours, sm I right. Firstly, did not God render the same solution to resolve the problems between the Heberew and the Egyptian people that I say is our only permant as wellI ? Of course, the answer is yes! And guess what, it is God that is guiding me and that is why the solutions are the same. I am Black America's first genuine prophet. God gave soereignity and nation-hood as the only permanent solution to 430 years of bondage and slavery of the Children of Israel and there are no differences between the Heberews and us, am I right. To say that God have more than one solution to any problem is saying nothing. You are being general and Black Americans just like the Children of Israel are not every day problem. Your intelligence here is measured by your quility to understand our plight in White America for the past 500 years and how specific you can be while discussing this issue. Right now you are not do well, mentally speaking, to say in general terms that God have more than one solution. Secondly, the next point you made is to recycle back into our communities. Where is your mind that you would think that having a community is better than having a country is obsolutely stupid of you, am I right.

@D.W., I am not interest in an arguement with you. I am interest in an intelligent diaology about Black America's plight and a permanent solution. The only positive thing that you said is that you agree with me that having our own nation would be ideal, am I right. So, let't move forward on what we agree on and wash away what you disagree with me on, okay. In other words, it is now my responsibility to take the lead since you have agreed with me on at least one thing for now while I have disagreed with you on all of your preseption of things. You agreed that having a country would be the ideal thing, right. I would now suppose that you see that sovereignity is our only permanent solution. Am I right or wrong?

Brother D.W. You are assuming that I think that a concerted effort to refrain from spending money in places that don't respect us, refraining from watching tv shows that show us in a bad light, and demanding that schools consider our culture before hiring teachers or developing curricula are ridiculous initiatives. Don't assume brother, because when you assume you are making an ASS of of U and ME. In fact if you would go to my profile page, you would see that I am in support of black businesses and helping to provide better schools for our children. I have never been against people who are against progression among black people, nor do I sit behind a PC pretending to be someone that I'm not. Also, I did not say every one of your arguments are ridiculous, I said ALMOST every one of your arguments are ridiculous...if not contradictory. One minute you're saying "I REALLY DO LOVE BLACK PEOPLE" in your article, another minute you're calling us "dumb folks" in your comments. So what does that say about YOUR maturity? If there's anyone (other than Harry) who's lacking maturity in this debate it's you....and it's not harming us sisters......it's destroying you. And for you to ask the question you posed in your blog title "Should Blacks accept more responsibility for Trayvon Martin's death?" is ridiculous also. You make it seem as if Trayvon's hoodie is more responsible for causing Trayvon's own death than Zimmerman was. You're showing the same attitude towards this matter as Geraldo Rivera who needs to take his journalism degree and shove it back into whatever box of Honey Nut Cheerios it escaped out of...LOL If anyone should accept more responsibility for Trayvon's death, it's the slave owning ancestors who caused the assassination of our black males.

P. S. For you to say to me "based on your blogs, YOU ARE ALWAYS RIGHT. and THAT is ALWAYS wrong," I take it as an EXCELLENT comment because it shows that my blogs are at a level of awareness that your mind cannot comprehend. Also, I noticed in your profile page where it asks "How did you hear about this site?" and "What Would You Like To See On This Site?" your reply to both questions was "not sure". Which proves that you are NOT as concerned with Black America as you would like us to believe...

@D.W., Let me say that if you are going to stand by what you said then you are less than a man of honesty. These are your words, "I do agree that ultimatelly our own nation would be ideal". I understand that this statement is saying that nation-hood, which is the same as sovereignity is ultimately ideal. What am I missing?

@Siebra, You implied that I am lacking in maturity, but I think you really ment lacking in knowledge, wisdom and understanding. However, I said to you that prophets are racially different. Mr. Farrakhan and you did not know this until after I said it to you, which means that you must give up Mohammed and the Islam religion because Mohammed is racially different from you and accept who your real prophet is and your relgion (LIFE). You have not ever said that I am wrong about prophets are racially different, am I right. I have explained all ghis to you already, right.

@D.w., You are a real knothead to say that having a country is ultimately is ideal and then say that you won't come to your country where your people, Black Americans are. But, I know what is happening with you. You are puffed-up with ignorance and arrogant. But, guess what? All 41million Black Americans are this way. Ignorant and arrogant people are very envious and jealous of their own people. In other words, our greatest enemy is ourselves and as Black America's first genuine prophet it is my divine responsibility to turn all that around. Therefore, I am asking you to put down your arrogance and ignorant and come back to admit that our only permanent solution is having a country of our own so we can move forward. Why are you stepping back from your statement that having a country is ultimately ideal?

Brother D. W. I don't care if the girls call you TEACHER, PROFESSOR, COUNSELOR, or a gotdamned SWAMI....your last comment to me sounds more like the brothers who embrace that male chauvinstic ideology where they always feel the need to dominate over the sisters. You don't even acknowledge the fact you insulted all of us Black people with your "dumb folks" comment above. All of us are not dumb folks and they are some of us who have respect for overselves, whether you know it or not. And I understand the hypocrisy of Reality TV and I have addressed that on many of my blogs, so don't think for one second that I am NAIVE to the detrimental effects it has. However, anyone can research my previous posts and see that I REALLY read for understanding and meaningful exchange...Matter of fact, I'll make it easier for you and direct you to a few of them: http://blackinamerica.com/content/188027/i... http://blackinamerica.com/content/186907/q... http://blackinamerica.com/content/161368/w... http://blackinamerica.com/content/155580/l... http://blackinamerica.com/content/179310/l... And yeah, I may argue like a hurt little girl on the playground in your eyes, but at least I offered an answer to the profile page question "what would you like to see more of on this site" instead of replying with a pea-brained "NOT SURE" answer like you had. And thank you for confirming my statement of how I don't think you can handle a debate, which is why you keep coming to me with scare tactics that even my 8 year old cousin could stomp out.

Lets make something positive out of this you both had good points ,you both look good and show wisdom in you words and I like the topic of this blog with this being said I like to draw your attention to The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan in a speech called ''Accepting Our Responsibility'',,,,, We are learning that education is not just a human need—education is a human right—and it belongs to every human being on this planet. Every government should find a way to educate its people without making education an elitist experience. It was Dr. Abdul Alim Shabazz who knew and wrote that the American people were purposely being dumbed down. When you have a dumb electorate, you do not have democracy, because democracy presupposes an enlightened electorate that knows its self interest. The U.S. population of Blacks is 38.3 million; and Blacks earn $744 billion annually. However, we spend billions upon billions of dollars on vices such as alcohol, tobacco and sport and play. Can’t we sacrifice a fifth? Can you sacrifice a six pack? Yes, you can get something from the stimulus package, but why not let us stimulate from our package? My point is there’s something that we’ve got in our pocket right now that we can sacrifice for the national good, if we would just learn just to sacrifice some vice and put it into a National Treasure. We as so-called leaders have to form a national trust of leaders. All of our artists, entertainers, sports figures are doing something to give back, and we have to give them credit for that; however, no matter what we do, it’s not enough. But if we were apart of a national pot, and everybody put in what they could afford to sacrifice, how short a time would it be that we would have $30 million, $40 million, $50 million—even $1 billion? If America is for sale, how much of it do we own? Then what’s the first thing we should buy? Land. What does one million acres of land look like? And what could we start with that? We know The One that makes rain, hail snow and earthquakes, and if we had one million acres, so we must talk to The God. God wants to show America that if we would come out of unrighteousness, He would begin to bless us as a sign to America if she would repent. In building a community, everybody has to go to work. Everyone’s talent has to be put to use. We’ve got people among us who know how to organize people effectively. Preachers, scholars, lawyers; local, national and international activists; and entertainers: Don’t you think that we could come together and plan spiritual education, pool our preachers together and stop hooping, shouting and going crazy and leaving the people in ignorance? Can’t we plan a spiritual curriculum based on the Bible and Holy Qur’an, and educate people that when they come to church it should be a learning experience about God as it was today? We can multiply what we see here all over the country. It’s time now, because if we don’t do it now, and lose this opportunity, then our people and their children, will never forgive us. Barack has done his job. Now we’ve got to do ours. Lets gather the house. We don’t have a lot of time. I need help. I know I can’t do it by myself, but I know we need help, and the help is here. The people are ready. The question is: Are we ready to go to work and build a national community? Who is going to help me do that? There are people all over the world that will help us if we would determine to help ourselves. All of you: Let’s go to work. Let’s build our community and make it a decent place to live. If we do this, we can take our young brothers away from the violence, away from the guns, away from the self-hatred.

Where is the man? Where is the man that has been called for a new purpose; the purpose of leading marches, bearing picket signs, speaking to the evil and dangerous environments of our communities; calling for basic decency. Is he refusing his purpose? Because today, our enemy looks like us. Now it's true, some of us live away from the black masses left in black neighborhoods in this country, thanks to Dr. King's movement we live where we want, but that does not excuse a lack of direction and focus on this problem and our lack of a major effort to STOP it. There are children stuck there with an unprepared mother, a father who is absent; in an environment that is scary, unsafe, distressing, and unpleasant. If white men were doing to blacks, what black men are doing to blacks today, there would be mayhem, destruction, civil unrest and marches on Washington much like those seen decades ago, maybe worse. Today black men are killing their own people in the streets, killing each others lives with drugs and HIV Aids and killing the souls of babies they just walk away from. Unprepared mothers are raising children that are, too, unprepared for school and for life, seemingly, only prepared for death and despair. This is a sad commentary of our state today. Dr. King would be so disappointed. We all need this man to come out of the closet, acknowledge our state, stand up, lead the marches, carry the picket signs, call for a new era and lead us out of this determined self hatred. 40 years from now, the country will still celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King and children and grandchildren will be taught about the strength and courage of the "old school" black man, like a fairy tale, because that kind of man will seem like such a dream; so far-fetched. Where is the man? Where is the young man that will take on the problems we face today from our own? Where is the man that will tell this generation to STOP! I'm urging you , black man, to take your purpose seriously. Yes it will be dangerous, difficult and lonely, but if God has called you, you'll get this done. And though you may die, you'll die for an important reason. Today black men are dying for no movement or revolution, just dying because he stepped on somebody's new sneakers, in a jail cell because of drugs, for s*x because of HIVAids, and in his heart because his father walked away.

Part of the problem in Black communities is that too many talented gifited, professional , artisic and wealthy persons leave. Not only do many of these people seldom return, for the most part they do not make a significant contributions ( financial or otherwise) to their people. I say since I been in this world I have not experience and help or words from any famous and great achiever or my children I have seen any help in our community or change due to one of these artisic , talented gifited persons. Its shame these black wealthy people forget about the ones who is struggling it was a time we people risk their lives to come back fo their friends and family and whoever wanted to come . To all of you! Onething about a people such as Black Americans that came into existence as slaves and has always been on the bottom is prong to habitual lying because we are void of basic common sense intelligence. The next phase that God have instructed me to bring to the forefront is our worthless integreity. We must and we will come to be up-right and honest people, especially to ourselves first. Our success depends greatly on our honesty without envy, jealousy and malice towards each other. Only God can rise us up and for this to happen we must first be anionted a prophet, am I right. I am Black America's first genuine prophet. You all should know this since none of can trump anything that I have been saying since I've been on BIA, right. I said that our only permanent solution is for us to have sovereignity in a country of our own on this continent and it is going to happen in my life-time. The fact that many sites, especially the Muslim sites and a few churches putting me out should cause you to wonder if something divine is really happenlng right before my eyes. In stead of you all thinking, you all would rather jump out at me and make mockery of me. Such was done to all the prophets by their own people, am I right.

But guess what, there are no Black Americans that know the right way for us and that is because I'm Black America's first genuine prophet. GOD has it so that I am smarter than all 41 million of us. If anyone of you-all would turn up to be smarter than I am then obviously I could not claim to be our prophet, right. So the fact that I am smarter than all of you is really a goog thing. All genuine prophets must be smarter and wiser than thier are in order to lead their people, right.

Greetings, My comment is for the brother user name 'd w' who is the author of this blog in reference to his commentary directed towards Sister Siebra. I happen to admire Sister Siebra and believe she is knowledgeable and has a good spirit; she has always been courteous and sisterly to me. If there's anyone who's behaving like a child here it's you. Both black and white people have made some very serious mistakes in dealing with us but for some reason you always find a way to place all of the blame on black people. No matter the situation, you swear it's all our fault. So I realize that it's you that has an issue. I wonder if you would be this outspoken about your feelings about the Trayvon Martin case if you were to meet us to meet face to face. Have you ever shared your same sentiments expressed here with other brothers and sisters you meet in person?? If you were to bring your views on a Black consciousness tv or radio program, the listeners would probably laugh at you and change the channel after hearing the foolishness you spew. All you do is generalize without offering any REAL solutions. I wouldn't be surprised if you were one of those so-called brothers who sit around the house preaching "we need unity" but behind closed doors you're chasing behind all the white girl coochie you can find...LOL. Why not address the sister's questions instead of just making jokes? Because like the sister said, you obviously don't know how to handle yourself in a debate. But, I won't take up much time here, because the Holy Qur'an warns that we are not to continue entertaining fools, and you along with Mr. Watley and Mr. Powell are the Chain, Chain, Chain of Fools.

now robert is the n*gga who you should be calling the F.B. and I on lol...he has been bullied people for many years around here with his rhetoric but he can't handle the truth when it is focused on him and it looks like you are following in his same footsteps...The truth is, "D W from Baltimore", that you are a coward a liar and a fraud. For one to show that siebra and I are nowhere near the ass you are, you are afraid to identify yourself by anything other than your initials...what's up with that?

@Robert, Since Bladk Americans are not responsible for how we came into existence when slavery began in this country then realistically and divinely speaking God is responsible for Trayvon's death as well as to permanently fix Black America's plight. Am I making any sense? In other words, how Black Ameritans came into exsitence in this country for sole purpose of slavery is precisely why we are in this condition today, period. Do you agree? God must help us as God helped the Children of Israel, right. The Children of Israel could not help Likewise, although the Heberew people were responsible hands on for their own bondage and slavery in Egypt by selling Joseph into slavery the greater good was averting the famine, which ultimately revealed how God was involved, am I right. Therefore, it was God responsible to fix it and God did after 430 years.

Noticev to All, Look at how you all and the author have taken a good question asked by this blog, but instead you all have degenerated this blog with you all stupid about who is smarter than who, shamefull. Idiots, if you believe that you are smarter than the next person you show it by trumphing what is said rather than critizing, stupid. There is no wisdom in downing or crittizing each other as there is in presenting facts and reasoning showing that you are indeed smarter. Am I right?
