FOOD FOR THOUGHT: TO SPANK OR NOT TO SPANK? THAT IS THE QUESTION! (1707 hits)

There has been a lot of talk concerning Creflo Dollar's recent assault on his 15 year old daughter and whether or not his actions were "justified". While I agree with most people that Creflo went a little too far in his discipline methods towards his daughter, I believe in "spare the rod, spoil the child" and feel a parent has not only a right but a responsibility to discipline thier child almost any way they can as long as it's justified and done out of love and concern.

Some people believe that once a child reaches adolescence (around 12 or 13) they should no longer be spanked, but for some children this is when they need it the MOST. Even if a parent has to spank their son or daughter on the behind and legs, to get respect and discipline from him or her...they must do it. But being beaten all over their body counts as abuse and shouldn't be tolerated.

Of course a parent must make sure thier child doesn't have psychiatric problems that force them to act out with crazy behavior. If that's the case then they need either drugs or therapy.....I'm a believer in psychiatric medication because I've seen how it's changed people's lives for the better. But psychiatric problems aside........A parent shouldn't hesistate to use physical force to keep their child on the straight and narrow.

My friend and I were speaking and just saying to ourselves how times have changed from when we were up and coming, and how the teachers had permission to whip our behinds if we came to school late, or if we acted up and was disorderly in school. Then you got another behind whipping when you got home...LOL

This was many, many years ago and now the power is being taken from the parents and into the hands of goverment agencies. I used to believe in "boundaries" for parents when it came to disciplining thier children....and I still do...but the boundaries have expanded a bit as I've gotten older and realized how unruly some children are in this day and time.

Over here in the South, I go into the supermarkets today and look at all these little bad children running around. They are some of the most unruly and disobedient I've seen. They go from grocery aisle to grocery aisle and throw produce and other items on the floor like they have absolutely no discipline. Their parents rarely (if ever) spank them....and if they do hit them it's usually out of anger and frustration rather than for disciplinary purposes. And today's children are amazingly strong.....stronger than what we were back in the day.

Their parents let them go undisciplined and when they get older they grow up and join gangs and the police end up locking them up in jail or shooting them dead out-right because they are so undisciplined that tasers and pepper-spray don't work on them. They look at being and acting crazy as a badge of honor.

I agree with discipline/not abuse, but certainly discipline. The American society has been so lax in that. When there is no discipline, there is no LOVE. When they take the ability to discipline a child away from the parent, then they really may as well just take over responsiblity for that child.
