Lust of the eye Online cheating takes many forms; from lurid conversations via instant messenger, to
private messages and exchanges of or posting pictures. The mobile phone is no longer limited to text and the new phenomena that is s*xting isn’t limited to words, very frequently the exchange consists of photos too. Public opinion is divided over what is cheating where online exchanges are concerned.
Cheating online is 21st century infidelity! Before Facebook and Twitter came along, people used to communicate mostly by phone, email and instant messenger. Mysterious telephone calls at odd hours, or a “hang-up†when the wife answered the call, were clear signs of infidelity. With the advent of the Internet, cheating got a lot more below the radar! Unless the cheating partner left their computer switched on, the unsuspecting wife or girlfriend was unaware of the exchange of steamy messages between spouse and mistress. Gradually as cyber cheating became more common and talked about, wives and girlfriends started to check emails and challenge partners whose email accounts were password protected! Cheating online was born!
This left the murky area of instant messages to investigate; a place where messages can be exchanged but deleted and where anonymity could be preserved simply by using a second email address. Web cams added spice to these messages and “online s*x†became a virtual possibility. As usual the s*x industry led the way in the “creative†use of webcams but many cheating husbands followed. So what is the attraction of cheating online and why do men and women use instant message services to cheat?
