In the opinion of this author, here’s the speech President-elect Barak Obama should give later today.
Obama: Here's hoping for real Change!
My fellow Americans – and fellow human beings all around this wonderful planet
This is a speech I’ve been hoping to make for many years.
It’s the speech in which I share with you some profoundly important truths, upon which our future as a community of free people depends.
This is the speech in which I add substance to fine rhetoric, explain the true depth of the crisis we face and propose a way forward for America – and for humanity as a whole.
The world faces several inter-locking and overlapping crises. It’s hard to untangle this complexity. I’ll try.
First, the world faces an unprecedented and potentially devastating ecological crisis. Our basic way of life is unsustainable. This has been true since the onset of industrialization, but as modern industrial society has spread throughout the planet, combined with rising population levels, the impact of unsustainability has become more noticeable and dangerous. In our times, this impact has become potentially devastating for civilization in totality.
One Whole Earth
Change in our way of life is not an option. We must change – or ecological realities, if nothing else, will impose change upon us in a way we’d experience as suffering on an unprecedented scale.
Overall, America is by far the worst culprit in driving the planet towards rapid ecological destruction. Therefore America must – and will – lead the change we must make. Of course, we shall act in close co-operation with partners in other lands. Our goal is a sustainable way of life – worldwide – as soon as possible.
I see this as a generational challenge and pledge to start charting Americas’s course towards sustainability from today. This will be fully integrated with a sector-by-sector plan for economic recovery – a topic I’ll deal with in depth in future announcements.
By the time I am a grandfather, I expect and hope we will have achieved a truly sustainable way of life. If not, the lives of my grandchildren – along with their whole generation and descendents – will be sad indeed. I am not willing to let that happen. I’ll do everything in my power to prevent it.
Second, during the course of the last century, my predecessors – and their counterparts in other countries – allowed a military industrial complex to swell in size until it threatens the very survival of humanity. If we do not reverse this trend with the greatest urgency, efforts to solve all the others grave problems we face will be futile.
Increase in Military Expenditure 1996-2005: the USA is the column on the far left
We must stop planning, spending and organizing for human destruction. We must beat swords into ploughshares. If not, humankind, quite simply, is doomed.
Once again, the USA – a country I love and of which am in so many ways proud – is by far the worst culprit. Our military industrial complex is the largest in the world many times over. Our own military is bloated. Our imperial over-reach exceeds all reason and decency. In the course of a century – especially since World War Two – the USA has become the most militarized society on earth.
I pledge to reverse this process with great urgency. We must free up resources for peaceful purposes. We must roll back an industry whose fruits, at best, aren’t used. We must divert resources, skills and energies to peaceful and constructive ends. Working with our counterparts overseas, we must bring about general, world-wide disarmament in our times.
JFK: tried to stop Israel getting nuclear weapons
A well considered strategy for achieving this was devised nearly 50 years ago by the Administration of President John F. Kennedy. I intend to pursue a similar program.
This brings me to the third main crisis. It is a crisis within our democracy. It is a crisis of deliberate subversion. In recent decades, America’s democracy, once the envy of the world, has become a contrived and dishonest travesty. This is intolerable and I intend to do everything in my power to reverse it.
My fellow Americans, the last US President who attempted to tackle the military industrial complex and break its power was brutally and publicly executed. The reasons for his murder – and the identity of those who ordered it – were systematically covered up. As a consequence, the America in which I came of age was an America harboring a foul secret at its very core. A group of criminals – and others complicit in their crimes – gained enormous power over the American body politic and Americans policies in November 1963. Their grip has tightened ever since.
This cabal is deeply inter-connected with the military industrial complex. But it has an additional sectarian agenda that must be identified, understood and exposed. The ideology that motivated the men who arganized President Kennedy’s murder was Zionism. The red line he crossed – which prompted his assassination – was Kennedy’s attempt to prevent the State of Israel from acquiring nuclear weapons.
WTC Collapse
In more recent times, the same criminal network was responsible for the horrific crime of 9-11. Yes, my fellow Americans. The attacks on America of September 11th 2001 were not organized by Arab or Muslim terrorists. They were organized by certain leaders of the Zionist movement – within and beyond the boundaries of the USA.
These people still enjoy enormous power. It is my intention to bring them to justice without delay.
The truth is fundamental to our civilization. A nation in which lies form the basis of public discourse is a nation that fails. Its foundations are rotten. It cannot endure.
I intend to restore truthfulness and honesty to American public life. We shall again become a democracy that the world admires and respects – a meritocracy in which the rights of all are respected, and the ability of the most honest, hard-working, inspiring and wise citizens to lead is not thwarted by criminals.
I have a set of policies – already drafted – to begin the process of revitalizing American democracy and ensuring the defeat of plutocratic forces. This is an inauguration speech, so I will not discuss them in detail now. A series of announcements in the coming days will give substance to my intention to restore integrity to Americans politics. Major changes in the mass media are among them. Americans cannot make the changes we need with a mass media that distorts reality so systematically and blatantly.
I’ll announce one significant change now. In my Administration, there will be no ‘dual nationals’ or potential ‘dual nationals’. This will be an American administration, run by Americans, for Americans and in the interests of America and the entire world of which we are a part.
Cynthia McKinney; the star of Washington
I have therefore asked Cynthia McKinney – a progressive American politician whose personal courage and loyalty to our constitution is beyond doubt – to take over as my Chief of Staff, effective immediately. I can think of no better person on earth to help re-shape my Administration so it can perform the historic changes I have outlined.
My fellow Americans – these are momentous times. You have done me the great honour of electing me President at this crucial juncture.
Obama: Hope for a Change
I pledge not to let you down.
In turn, I ask we all share the heavy burden of implementing the vital changes we must make for a better future.
The goal is a free, democratic, fair, prosperous harmonious and sustainable America within a world that shares these qualities.
I ask one other favour… Please watch my back!
