Biography:
Carl Cox
We won’t be off the mark if we were to say Carl Cox is an innovator among DJs. One of the greatest DJs in the world, Carl Cox has been part of Britain’s dance scene right from the days to disco through hip-hop, the rare groove movement, and the rave revolution of the late 80s. Born in Manchester in 1962 to parents originally from Barbados, Cox began by DJing at the tender age of eight! And if this is unbelievable, he began spinning vinyl by 15. Now, how’s that for a prodigy? Sent to college to study electrical engineering, he quit in six months time and took up various jobs, till such time he could become a full time DJ, his calling.
It all began in 1996 for Carl with the launch of his own record label, Worldwide Ultimatum. He produced his debut album ‘At the End of the Cliché’. It stormed the UK charts ending up at #22. This was around the same time when he started his own management company, Ultimate Music Management.
Nothing less than an iconic pop-star in Britain and elsewhere, he has appeared on Top of the Pops and was awarded the International Dance Award ‘DJ of the Year’ 1996. Carl Cox’s fame meant that he has received ‘Best DJ of the Year’ award in Ireland, France, Germany, and Scotland. The Muzik Mag crowned him the ‘DJ of the Year’ in their readers’ poll, too. Name any music magazine from Mixmag to Muzik, to DJ and Wax, he has graced their covers. His ‘Ultimate Mix’ show on Saturday nights on London’s Kiss FM radio station was awarded the ‘DJ Mixer of the Year’ by ardent listeners.
Playing throughout the world, Carl Cox has appeared at the legendary Love Parade in Berlin playing in front of over 80,000 frenzied fans asking for more. From South Africa to Japan and Australia, there is rarely a part of the world which has not rocked to Carl Cox’s funky beats. You can find him playing in some of UK‘s biggest clubs including, Ministry of Sound, Lakota, and Cream.
His F.A.C.T and its follow-up F.A.C.T are best examples for the musical genius of a rare talent. F.A.C.T has in fact sold over a staggering 70,000 copies in UK alone! Now, how is that for some real numbers? Well, with Carl Cox, you have really come to expect these sorts of statistics, don’t you? Bring him on, any day, any time, we will listen.
