http://www.ijreview.com/2015/6/355656-teenager-stole-park-didnt-take-police/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=owned&utm_campaign=morning-newsletter Is it vigilante justice, or a case of “it takes a village”?

When a 13-year-old boy was caught stealing a man’s pants at a park, he was given the option of going home and facing his parents or getting a “whipping” on the spot, leading many to wonder whether that was the right thing to do.

While physical punishment is a common form of discipline, spanking is used most of the time and is usually reserved for much younger children.

According to Psychology Today, in 1986, 86 percent of parents believed that some form physical punishment was acceptable when children acted out. But the number is down to 70 percent today. Opinions on the issue are also divided by religion:

As the lashes were administered, the boy cried, screamed and eventually apologized for his crime. Then the man makes the young boy an offer: to take him to the park, to help him “get his grades up” and to give him his phone number so he can call him if he needs help or advice.

Do you feel this teen's punishment was appropriate?

Yes

No
