I concerned with the trashy Rap music. Not as much as the other races listening to it, but for the youth who listen to it and dance obscenely too it, who think rude, loud, disrespectful behavior is the o.k. think to do.

High school football captain for JV 2 years. Varsity N/A due to injury and actions made by coach leading to loss of love for the sport. Jrotc participation- 2 years.

None because racism plagues my community. If i had to say, the best one would be the expulsion of 10 caucasian males because they protested the attendance of African-American students in the same school. (There are only approx. 15 students that could be considered black that go to my school including me.)

I did NOT graduate college and I am ok with that.

I watch Black in America and think about going back. Yes, I am a self proclaimed actorvist and I love what I do.

I love working for the greater good of the next generation. I'm moved by the issues that affect the lives of youth and young adults across this country.

Black America is NOT a place on the map. We do not exists in it.

We have to think about standing up and being the change. Think in terms of being leaders who understand the concept that to be great we must learn how to follow. Why Are You Concerned About Black America:

I am concerned about Black America because it seems as if The Black Family is becoming more scrutinized by the habits of those who no longer believe in the preservation of self.

Black women are dying everyday with the HIV virus.

The main cause is living with men who are not honest and aren't smart enough to use proctection when commiting adultery. Like the communication line is not what it used to be. Much younger and more careless individuals having s*x before their time. Not having sufficent education in the practices of early pregnancy and what it means to give up living your life to raise another. Young girls are becoming young women much earlier than I ever remember.

Causing their bodies to grow up faster than their minds. I've seen 12 and 13 year old minority girls pregnant. Not even out of Middle School and Junior High School before having their first baby shower.

Where are the parents and the grandparents that were around when I was young. At least where are the morals that self preservation could of and should of passed on. It seems that now more than ever the Black Family has more obstacles to deal with as well as a much more damaging perception of harsher realities being lived by those in the lower to middle income based communities. Where will we be in 10 years if young girls continue having three and four kids before their High School Graduation? Where will we be in 5 years if the communication between husbands and wives causes us to distrust each other. Having s*x with men behind the family name, lying to those around them.

Or for Black women to continue finding themselves victims of their habits looking past the real and into deceit to find comfort in denial. When will we find it necessary to preserve our heritage.

The heritage our ancestors slaved out in the hot sun for 400 years in conditions no human being should be subjected to. The heritage our grandparents were hosed down, and hung for. Was it all for nothing? does it now mean nothing? I am a strong believer in people being true to themselves and knowing what it means to love your body and not abuse it. I also am an open minded individual and understand that people enjoy doing things that some people can't accept. But I love everyone and support being true to oneself no matter what your race, s*x, s*xual orientation or religious beliefs may be.

What I am most concerned about in our Black America is our parent youth. I was a teen parent and out of respect for my self and my children I had to grow up and become a woman way before my time. This I am not complaining about because that is what god had in his plans for me. What my concern is that I see so many young men and women thinking that they are men and women because they bore children. It takes more then the birth of a child to make you a parent or an adult. I stand by the belief that no, we do not want our children to be teen parents but once you have them it’s what you do to raise them. You have to teach them not to make the same judgment calls you made. That you have to finish school and be a positive member of society. Not live off of the system generation to generation. I have a girl friend that grew up on social services because she were a product of teen pregnancy and her mothers mother told her to go once she had her first child and now her who’s daughter just got pregnant at the age of 13 the same age we got pregnant and her first statement was she better go and apply for assistance. That sickens me! My mother failed to break the cycle of teen pregnancy but she did put something on my heart and mind that well for ever stay. You work for yours no matter how hard it is and the benefits will be worth more. She said for one you will show you daughter that her greatest asset is her will to survive and that she can always depend on her self. Not a man or the system. She also said there is noting wrong with getting assistance but only if you truly need it but not as a career move.

I live in the urban city and my children, our children are lost.

I watch the children in my neighborhood and sadly I feel as if they are predestined to fail. I know that seems strong and harsh, however we must lead by example.

What they see is what they do!

I watch the boys and the grown men stand on the corner, asking for spare change, each and every day like clockwork.

I see the boys and girls sell drugs with no shame as we walk by. I see the children stand on the school steps and shoot craps.

I watch the teenaged girls walk by in the short skirts and see thru tops, and every other word out of their mouths is rifled with profanity. Where are the parents? Where are the leaders? Why has this behavior become "the norm" for our children and our babies?

Having personally suffered racism in the state of Maryland in Baltimore City and Baltimore County for decades not only fighting my battles but those of several family members.

A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT MYSELF I want our stories about our Black peoples plights of injustice that have been hidden and swept under the rug for centuries and decades by the power structure to be truthfully told. When attending high school, I and other classmates were selected as best candidates by teachers and other staff for a work study program at Social Security Administration.

As Black female teenagers living in urban America, Social Security had us under surveillance by a white male who would sit in his car and watch us everyday at the bus stop. Out of us only two were hired by Social Security who were lighter skinned and on a higher social economical level them we all were. From there I attended to Morgan State University and begin working for Baltimore City Government as the first Black stenographer for the Department of Finance for the City.

According to the Baltimore City Civil Service examination, I was told by the supervisor

that I was not only the only Black to pass test but also out of all white applicants.

Racism was in full effect when I landed at this job.

The Director ran the office as a gusstopo not allowing females to use the restroom facilities until their break which I wrote a letter to the Mayor and the rule was changed immediately.

I went back to complete Bachelors Degree. I got tired of being treated like dirt because I was considered as clerical staff by managerial types. Everything was going pretty good at college with the exception of a few forks in the road being a minority at a predominantly white university. ....

person from white supremacists. Although he was the same 'COLOR' of KKK, Fr James Coyle's card was marked for a number of reasons.

He was an Irish immigrant, he was Catholic, he advocated for immigrants and poor people of all races in letters to local newspapers,

and he married a white Methodist woman, who also happened to be the daughter of his killer, to a Catholic Puerto Rican man in 1921 Alabama.

..Methodist Edwin Stephenson, of the KKK who hated Catholics. Stephenson's daughter Ruth fell in love with Puerto Rican man Pedro Gussman.

Stephenson approached Mr. Pedro Gussman and fatally shot him three times in front of witnesses.

Stephenson was charged with the priest's murder and the case went to trial. The KKK paid for his team of five defense lawyers,

four of whom were Klansmen, led by future US Senator and Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black.

Stephenson was ultimately acquitted in what was considered a major miscarriage of justice.

Experiences of racial discrimination are linked with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, substance use and PTSD, as well as physical ailments such

as diabetes, hypertension and obesity. Black Americans, for instance, are about twice as likely as White Americans to develop dementia.

Racism is its own stressor and one that cannot be easily avoided.

“Even as a kid, you’re experiencing discrimination related to your skin color..,” said Arpana Gupta, professor at the University of California at Los Angeles.

Black people and other racial minorities — and their brains — can learn to adapt, but it comes at a cost, researchers said.

“It’s kind of like working twice as hard to get just as far,” said Negar Fani, professor of psychiatry/behavioral sciences at Emory University School of Medicine.

Over the long term, racism accelerates aging and degrades key brain circuits involved in regulating emotion and cognition.

“This is not an effect of race,” said Nathaniel Harnett, neuroscientist at McLean Hospital and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

“It is an effect of the burdens we place on racial groups.”
