TV ONE SALUTES RADIO ONE FOUNDER CATHY HUGHES THE NEW NAMESAKE FOR HOWARD UNIVERSITY'S SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION (2396 hits)



SILVER SPRING, MD - Oct. 17, 2016- TV One, the network dedicated to representing the best in black culture and entertainment , congratulates Ms. Cathy Hughes, founder and chairperson of its parent company Radio One, Inc., as the new namesake for Howard University's School of Communications. In honor of her lifetime commitment to excellence in the media industry and this impressive accolade, TV One is saluting Ms. Hughes with an integrated, cross-platform congratulatory promotion consisting of on-air and online announcements and special programming, including the premiere of "Cathy Hughes One on One: A NewsOne Special" hosted by Roland S. Martin on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 10 p.m. ET and a marathon of Ms. Hughes' best known interviews during her days as host of the network's series, "One on One with Cathy Hughes" on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET. 

 

In "Cathy Hughes One on One: A NewsOne Special,"Ms. Hughes discusses the joys and challenges of building a media empire in an exclusive interview with Martin, host and managing editor of TV One's NewsOne Now, the only daily television news program dedicated to Black viewers, for a one-hour primetime special premiering on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 10 p.m. ET and encoring on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 8 a.m. ET.  As the first African American woman to chair a publicly traded company, Ms. Hughes will walk Martin through her journey from teen mom to urban media maven in a live-to-tape interview from where it all began - Howard University.

 

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, TV One will also telecast a marathon of Ms. Hughes' best-known interviews during her days as host of the network's series, "One on One with Cathy Hughes." From 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET, viewers can catch her conversations with Minister Louis Farrakhan (9-11 a.m. ET), Terrence Howard (11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET), Taraji P. Henson (12-1 p.m. ET), Jamie Foxx (Ray, 1-1:30 p.m.; Django Unchained, 1:30-2 p.m.), President Barack Obama (2-3 p.m. ET) and Sec. of State Hillary Clinton (3-4 p.m. ET).

Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. ET

TV One will telecast a marathon of Ms. Hughes' best-known interviews during her days as host of the network's series, "One on One with Cathy Hughes."

 

Minister Louis Farrakhan (2010), 9-11 a.m. ET

In 2010, Ms. Hughes interviewed with the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan who granted her unprecedented access to his private family retreat. The minister gives an in depth and powerful perspective of his mission of his controversial yet influential life. From the Million Man March to Malcolm X and Minister Elijah Mohammed, to the threats on his life, they cover it all in this revealing look behind the legend.

 

Terrence Howard (2005), 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET    

Before he created his own empire as Lucious Lyon, Ms. Hughes interviewed Terrence Howard in 2005. Nominated for an academy award for his role in "Hustle and Flow," Howard reveals the genius behind his performance. He also talks about his career of over 40 films, his breakout character in "The Best Man," his family and his love of music. In addition, Howard brings his guitar and sings an original song from his private collection.

 

Taraji P. Henson (2009), 12-1 p.m. ET

Before Cookie rocked an empire, Ms. Hughes got Taraji P. Henson to open up about her struggle and successes making it in Hollywood. Nominated for an Academy Award for her outstanding performance in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" she reveals the long road to the red carpet and working with Award winning leading men like Terrence Howard and Brad Pitt.

 

Jamie Foxx (2005), 1-1:30 p.m. ET

Just before Jamie Foxx won the Academy Award for "Ray" and his Grammy win for "Blame It", this multi-talented young star shares the secrets, the thrills and the passion of playing the legendary Ray Charles with Ms. Hughes. He also opens up about working with great directors like Michael Mann and superstars like Tom Cruise and Kerry Washington. This interview is a fascinating behind the scenes look at the Hollywood experience from the African American perspective.

 

Django Unchained (2012), 1:30- 2 p.m. ET

Ms. Hughes sat down with Jamie Foxx, Quentin Tarantino, and Kerry Washington just before the premiere of Django Unchained. Secrets and behind the scenes challenges are revealed from the set of this controversial film. Foxx and Washington discuss the tension, anger, and emotion they felt in making a movie about this time period. Tarantino discusses his vision and motivation for creating the movie, casting, music, and his passion for filmmaking.

 

President Barack Obama (2004), 2- 3 p.m. ET

State Senator Barack Obama sits with Ms. Hughes to discuss his run for the U.S. Senate. They talk about his upbringing and education, his relationship with Michelle Obama, and their two young girls. Obama and Hughes also tackle his views on race relations, civil rights, the War in Iraq, terrorism, and highlights from his memorable Democratic National Convention Speech.

 

Secretary Hillary Clinton (2007)  3-4 p.m. ET

Ms. Hughes sits with then Senator Hillary Clinton in the heat of a hard fought presidential primary for one of the most historical elections of our time. They discuss her battle with her opponent Barack Obama and their race to be the first woman or African American President. She reveals her campaign strategy, beliefs, and policies as well as how she overcame adversities to strike out at the glass ceiling.
