How to achieve true justice in America (and what that means) Amid the often-arduous journey towards equality, it’s vital to take a moment to reflect upon where we are. By Rev. Al Sharpton Amid the often-arduous journey towards justice and equality, it’s vital to take a moment to reflect upon where we are, the progress that we have achieved and assess where our work remains. In the next 25 years, our job must be to cement the gains made in the last half century and protect everything from voting rights to civil rights as they come under renewed attack. We must reimagine policing, climate change and deal with the racial wealth gap in education, health care, housing and more. In the next 25 years, we must continue to build upon our successes and work to maintain protections that only came to fruition following intense sacrifice generation after generation. Dozens of states are currently trying to change voting laws, with almost 400 bills being pushed in Republican legislatures. These laws could systematically undermine participation in the voting process. We must have a diverse coalition of Americans pushing back against this open assault on democracy. At the same time, we must also address ongoing injustices with policing, and tackle new challenges. When the catastrophic Covid-19 pandemic hit, disparities in health care, jobs and resources were exposed for everyone to see. Communities of color and poor communities suffered terrible losses, both in terms of lives and livelihoods. Our virtual reality also revealed America’s unequal access to broadband and technology. Kids were told to attend school online when many didn’t even have internet capabilities or a computer at home. As we look towards the future, we must take measurable steps to equalize broadband and other tech so that no student, teacher or parent is left behind.

When I joined this site 12 years ago the need for broadband was well known and nothing has ever been done about it. You're too late Ron and now the continued COVID-19 scare tactics will put the poorest students deeper in the hole.

Then let us work together to solve these problems, what do you think, Americans both Black and White working together to right the wrongs in the country. Let us work together, OK!

In those days we did work together Ron. Now this site has devolved into pure politics. Look at my profile and see what I say under "what I'd like to see on this site." I wrote it a long time ago. Has it made any difference?

Listen Ron, Sharpton is a divider. A divider that will never bring true justice. I am a more reliable guide than he is. My way is bigger.

Folks should not address Sharpton as "Rev." He's one of the most flawed persons ever to walk the earth. He's a coward too, not to be a member of Black in America.

If that is the case, then tell me what did you get out of this paragraph: Amid the often-arduous journey towards justice and equality, it’s vital to take a moment to reflect upon where we are, the progress that we have achieved and assess where our work remains. Here's what I get out of that paragraph Ron. You are lost and confused. You have no idea what you've gained, nor what you want in the next 25 years. Buddhism is the only thing that can save you.

WOW!!! I live in a Progressive mixed community, this community is far from being a segregationist Or Un-American about HYDE PARK, Chicago. Let me tell you About my community. Diversity Hyde Park is one of Chicago's more racially diverse neighborhoods. Its population is 47.6% White, 26.8% African American, 12.1% Asian American, 8.5% Hispanic, and 5.0% of other races or of more than one race. There are significant differences between the racial demographics of the part of Hyde Park south of 55th Street (most of which is part of the University of Chicago campus) and the part of Hyde Park north of 55th Street. Residents south of 55th Street are predominantly White and Asian American, with only a relatively small percentage being African American. North of 55th Street, on the other hand, African Americans make up approximately half of the population. The population of the northwestern corner of Hyde Park (north of 55th Street and west of Drexel Avenue) is almost 100% African American. Hyde Park's location in the center of the predominantly African American South Side of Chicago as well as its large population of well-to-do black residents have made it an important cultural and political hub of Chicago's black community. Many of Chicago's prominent African American politicians live or have lived in Hyde Park, including former Chicago Mayor Harold Washington, former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun, and former U.S. President Barack Obama. I see that you like to talk out of the side of your neck, on topic’s you don’t have a clue about but yet that is not a factor in your response. I asked you several times do you believe the big lie that Donald Trump told you? He said that the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen from Trump. Steve, do you believe what Trump said? Can you answer me that question?

Ron, I didn't know that all your followers are from Hyde Park. Interesting but why don't they ever pipe up? Your final question though is boring. Get some reading glasses or hearing aids or take some Prevagen for your memory function, OR SOMETHING, PLEASE. So when Sharpie says "Amid the often-arduous journey towards justice and equality, it’s vital to take a moment to reflect upon where we are, the progress that we have achieved and assess where our work remains." Are 'we' and 'our' also referencing this same "Progressive mixed community?"

Because it is very interesting to see how you can sit back on your ass and try to tell me where I come from, who's my community, nothing like that limited place you describe yourself putting me, that's why Steve. Have you heard of the University of Chicago I live within its shadows and my community is growing large daily. Did you know that President Barack Obama's library will be in this community as well?

I''m talking about this Ron: Dozens of states are currently trying to change voting laws, with almost 400 bills being pushed in Republican legislatures. These laws could systematically undermine participation in the voting process. We must have a diverse coalition of Americans pushing back against this open assault on democracy. If you are sincere, then you will need to compromise. The Texas Democrats for instance, are obstructing. That won't work Ron.

It does not include federalizing elections. Pennsylvania will conduct our own election. Stay out of our business. Concern yourself with Illinois only Ron.

the U.S. Supreme Court does not hesitate to affirm the notion. In the 1972 decision in Dunn v. Blumstein , Justice Marshall stated, “In decision after decision, this Court has made clear that a citizen has a constitutionally protected right to participate in elections on an equal basis with other citizens in the jurisdiction.” Do you see that proof, do you understand what The U.S. supreme court had to say about the law of the Land. And not from your emotions Steve.

Here's what you need to do Ron. Find out where, around that shadow of the University of Chicago, you have been plagued with long lines. Find out which of those bureaucracies does you the honor of assigning you precinct workers, and make sure you get your fair share of precinct workers. I'll take care of my **** on this end. Deal? Deal.
