Nation’s Oldest HBCU Football Rivalry Returns in 2026 with 102nd Turkey Day Classic (1802 hits)

The nation’s oldest HBCU football rivalry will return to the field in November 2026 as Alabama State University and Tuskegee University face off in the 102nd Turkey Day Classic. The historic Thanksgiving matchup remains one of the most celebrated traditions in college football.

The tradition unites alumni, students, and fans in celebration of history, pride, and community.

Through the collaborative efforts of Alabama State University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Jason Cable and Tuskegee University Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Reginald Ruffin, the two institutions have finalized a one-year agreement to play each other in the 2026 football season.

“While longevity is the goal in this type of long-standing rivalry, we at ASU feel this is definitely a step in the right direction,” said Dr. Cable. “The Turkey Day Classic is a historic matchup, and we look forward to continuing this tradition and celebrating the legacy of this rivalry on Thanksgiving.”

First played more than a century ago, the Turkey Day Classic has long been a cornerstone of HBCU athletics, culture, and community pride. Both universities look forward to adding another chapter to their storied history in 2026.
