This image represents the promise that my Grandmother; Irene Gertrude Butler-Boulware-Bunch, and I made when I was just a little boy. My Grandmother and I have always discussed my going to college one day. As I grew and passed through the test of time and all of the challenges that led to this point, where almost not to be...especially when I listened to and believed the Devil that urged me to continue working in the wood, metal, electricity, and print shops in high school, because no black boy is suppossed to think about anything but serving. After struggling to raise a family and never getting anywhere, I found that I have been lied to....Bamboozled and hoodwinked! I enrolled in college and took my chances. They said that I was not cut out for higher education. They said that I would never amount to anything. With the Blessing of the Lord, the faith of my Grandmother, the encouragement of my wife and children, and after going to classes (at two different colleges) since 1996...the day arrived on May 29, 2004. I Proudly Marched down that aisle and stood on that stage, accepted my degree from a Proud Black College, and smiled at my Proud Grandmother and Family, as she watched me keep our promise.
