I have posted a few Blogs on Love. I’ve talked about my life lessons with this powerful emotion.
An emotion that can:
make you gain and loss weight,
stay away from a good job or take a bad job that you hate,
hurt the persons closest to you or help folks that you hate.
This Love stuff is tough.
Some years ago I was blessed (although I didn’t see it as a blessing at the time) to be able to counsel folks on marriage. In particular, these people were looking to grow, hold on to, or get rid of Love. I learned a great deal about Love during that process that I’d like to share.
Although we may think that we are all different or our Love issues are unique. When it comes to Love… our wants and needs are very-very similar. Think of Love as a potted plant.
A potted plant that is left unattended will surely die!
A potted plant that does not receive what that plant need to grow..will not grow!
- Sure you can give the plant beer, because you like beer and it may live for a while…but it will eventually stop growing
- A plant needs what the plant needs to flourish
- Your enjoyment of your plant should come from the growth of the plant…not your personal wants

A potted plant needs the right environment to mature and bloom into the plant IT WAS MEANT TO BE!
- Trying to change a daisy into a rose will not work
- Daisies are beautiful too
- Someone wants daisies
- If you want a rose…don’t try to make one…go find one!

Most important, a plant needs to be loved just for being a plant
- If we get mad at a chrysanthemum because it’s not as pretty as a Lily…we are wrong
- We must Love and respect the plant that we have as if it is the most important, vital, beautiful plant in the world
- Telling a plant to change, grow-up, bloom faster, make more money, loss weight, or dress better does not help you or the plant to grow
I once hear TD Jakes say that any person that tries to change something into something else is called a “witch”. That is even more true in Love. If we try, hint, or encourage the person we Love to become someone new…maybe that’s not Love. Not is not to say that we shouldn’t correct or seek out different behaviors.
If the plant has dead leafs…pull them
If the plant has rooting… roots clip them
If the plant is falling down…prop it up
If we treat the ones we claim to Love as if he or she was a potted plant…am I sure our Love will grow.
It’s worked for me!
